Local hunter bags 203 pound deer in Bald Mountain district
Chester Hale manager of the Cash Market topped the city’s deer record with a 203 pound buck shot last Saturday in Bald Mountain. He hunted with Roy Jackson and made the shot at about 400 yards. Hale’s buck stands as the largest city deer prior to Otto Vandegrift’s 235 pound kill last Sunday.

Veterans Plan Armistice Day Program in Dillon
Beaverhead post of the American Legion completes Armistice Day observance plans in Dillon for Monday November 12 starting 10 30 am with exercises at the training school auditorium led by chaplain J B Cluley. The high school band and training school glee club perform followed by The Star Spangled Banner. At 11 am a minute of silence honors fallen soldiers with a prayer by Rev H N Tragitt Jr. Principal Charles Henry delivers the main address. Afternoon football Beavers vs an assembled team with daylight fireworks display organized by George Gosman. Lunch for ex service men precedes an Armistice day ball at city hall with Baxter Tonrey orchestra.

Beaverhead county treasurer Miss Norah Connelley reports prompt tax payments after notices went out on Nov 1. Of the first 88 taxpayers, 37 paid in full, signaling improved rancher finances. Two and a half days brought in 1349.27 dollars, with total taxes due at 862,796 dollars, about 61,000 less than 1927. Half real property taxes due Nov 30. personal property taxes also due then.

New State Highway Survey Completed Near Dillon
Engineers from the state highway commission with George Metlen completed the survey of a proposed new state and federal highway north of Dillon. The line will run from Montana street to the river bridge then north to connect with last year’s highway, creating an uninterrupted Dillon to Melrose trunk road. A second survey for the Dillon to Daly’s spur segment, 12.2 miles, is on the report and the contract may be let soon, likely among early 1929 projects.
