Ethel Kennedy Crowned May Queen at Normal College
Ethel Kennedy, Montana State Normal College sophomore, was chosen May Queen before 1,500 at the Normal gymnasium. She is daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Kennedy of Monida and has served as class secretary. The May Day pageant featured 25 acts by over 300 students with the Little Symphony Orchestra directed by Ralph McFadden. Other candidates included Louise Davidson, Mary Ruth Kelly, Emma Lovinger, and Juanita Pace.

51 Ranchers Receive 1937 Range Payments in Beaverhead County
Final 1937 range conservation payments totaling 14318.25 were issued by Bernard Williams’ office to 51 operators. Compliance included spring developments, stock water reservoirs, a well, 3500 ft of ditching, 3000 rods of fencing, reseeding 784 acres with crest ed wheat seed, rodent bait on 2000 acres, one dam, deferred grazing on 623 acres, and reseeding 10043 acres of mountain meadow with 62233 pounds of seed. Farmers and ranchers may participate in 1938 program.

Beaverhead county high school entries earned three state honors at the Missoula meet last weekend placing second in declamation and third in both the Class B newspaper contest and the Class B relay race. Arthur Christensen rose to second in boys declamation, while Beaverhead’s school paper The Beaver placed third. Laurel won the group with Culbertson second. sponsor Fay Kirkpatrick led the team of Fairbanks Wilcox Burgess and Tait to the relay podium.

With Memorial day approach, Dillon BPW renews a $2400 fundraiser to improve Mountain View cemetery. WPA support has raised the project to $21,400 with $19,000 coming from WPA and BPW to raise the remaining amount through public subscription. The plan includes drilling an 8 inch well, installing an electric pump, a power line, a cement reservoir, steel pipe, and landscaping.
