Vital Affair Bond Vote Urged for Beaverhead School

Beaverhead county voters are urged to support an 11 000 bond issue in a special Saturday election. Forty percent of 1 583 registered voters must cast ballots to validate the vote. polling places are Dillon City Hall and the Metlen Hotel. If defeated, extensive exterior work, heating, and auditorium work will be eliminated, and the high school building may not be usable.

Trapshoot Title Still In Doubt

Dillon and Missoula remain tied for first in the Montana state shoot after perfect 75s, headed to July Butte finals to decide the title. Butte traps win the Davis five-man team trophy while Ted Renfro and Chuck Staples lead with 99 in the 100-target event. Herman Peterson dominates doubles with 49x50.

Cement sidewalk laid on entire block this past week

A crew of men has been busy over the past week laying a new cement sidewalk along the entire block. The work appears to cover the full length with fresh concrete visible from curb to curb.

Prominent Medicine Lodge Rancher Isaac Rife Dies

Isaac Rife Jr., 82, longtime Medicine Lodge resident and rancher, died at his ranch after years of illness. Born January 31, 1857 in Ontario, he arrived in Beaverhead County in 1878 and married Catherine Barrett in 1884. Survived by wife, three sons, a daughter, six grandchildren, and multiple relatives. funeral set at Grace Methodist Church with interment in Mountain View.

Mrs Stocker Dies at Home in Dillon Sunday

Mrs Caroline Stocker 79 died at her Dillon home on South Washington Street last Sunday after months of illness. She was born September 17 1860 in Stonecreek Ohio and moved to Beaverhead County in 1910 to operate the L C Stocker store at Grant then to Dillon seven years ago. Surviving are three daughters Anna Eva May all of Dillon two sons Roy a Horse Prairie rancher and Harry of Saco Montana a brother-in-law R B Stocker of Salmon Idaho Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2 pm from the Stocker home with Rev Leonard Thompson of the Lutheran church officiating burial in Mountain View cemetery.

Local men lead in high school project labor force

State re employment office figures show local workers predominate on the county high school building. The list details local and outside workers across trades including carpenters and laborers with all outside carpenters hired only due to insufficient local labor. A communication from Carpentry Local 175 secretary H R Deutsch confirms locals are prioritized and any outside carpenters are for time limits.

District Court Opens Civil Term. Rumbaughs Convicted

The district court criminal calendar concluded after the state rested in the Gust Anderson case. Dale Rumbaugh and Carl Rumbaugh were found guilty of first degree burglary after a Friday-Evening trial. Carl Rumbaugh faces a 10 year sentence, Dale Rumbaugh awaiting sentencing. George Johnson was found guilty of robbery and sentenced to two years. a prior hold up at Dillmont Park on September 11, 1938 claimed $300.

Graduation Week Plans Announced For Beaverhead High

The Beaverhead county high school 1939 graduating class of 44 faces a full week of events from the junior prom Friday to commencement on May 25. Baccalaureate at 8 pm Sunday at the training school auditorium follows a spring concert Monday and class day Wednesday. The annual spring concert, May 22, features L A Gregory directing with the Elks drum and bugle corps and Marguerite Johnson soprano. about 85 musicians perform with free admission.
