Dam Break Threat Overstated Near Lima After Repairs
Hundreds feared for flood danger as a leak in a dam east of Lima prompted evacuations and rapid repairs. State Engineer I D James ordered flood gates opened and crews worked through the night to shore up the structure. Beaverhead River rose eight inches as officials, railroad and highway crews prevented further damage while preparing irrigation use of overflow water.

State Oratorical Contest Tonight at Normal College
Six speakers from Montana colleges compete in the twelfth annual state intercollegiate oratorical contest at Normal College auditorium tonight. Participants include John Stinsky Edward J. National Commander May Visit Vets in Dillon
Beaverhead post discussed inviting National Commander Louis A Johnson to stop in Dillon on Memorial Day to speak to local veterans as he travels by train to Butte. A four team junior baseball league was proposed with former stars as coaches and Sons of Legionnaires activity was deferred. Memorial Day will be observed with cemetery and field day committees in charge.

Odd Fellows and Rebekahs Hold Convention in Dillon
The district convention of Odd Fellows and Rebekahs met in Dillon with district president W. T. Scully presiding over Odd Fellows sessions. Mrs. Minnie Pendergast led the Rebekahs, with Anaconda named as next year’s meeting place. A. L. Capps elected district president of the I C C F and Mrs. Florence Gross to head the Rebekahs. Officers elected included Dan Pendergast as vice president and W. D. Kendrick as secretary, with George C. Farrell as treasurer.

Renfro Forrester Tallent and Pete Westerpaard achieved 25s as Dillon and Helena tied for first until Billings of Missoula could alter standings. The Dillon Choral Club's winter and spring concert at the training school auditorium drew a large crowd. Soloists included Mrs. Zola Jeppson and Mrs. Adena Hardy. quartets featured Mrs. Herman, Mrs. Waldorf, Mrs. Geo. Farrell, and Mrs. Wilkinson. Pianists Ralph McFadden and accompanists Mrs. Mary E. Farrell and Mrs. Adena Hardy provided masterful performances. After the show the club hosted a reception at Mrs. Jeppson's home.

Lyman Bigler Called By Death In Local Home
Lyman Bigler aged 64 died at the F. C. McFadden home Sunday evening after a lingering illness. A Utah native, he spent 45 years on ranches near Lima and Snowline and was well known in the area. Survived by two sisters Mrs Eliza Black and Mrs Simma Carhart a nephew Harry Black and niece Mrs J C Medden all of this city. Funeral held Tuesday from Brundage chapel with Rev T J Simons officiating and interment in Mountain View cemetery.

May Fete at Normal Gym Features Queen and International Dance
The Montana State Normal College hosts a May fete Friday in the college gym under the Women’s Athletic Association. Over 200 students from the Normal training school and college perform in a pageant titled The Esperanto Docks at Bombay with diverse international dances and a crowning of the May queen. The Little Symphony orchestra provides music for processions and dances including Sidewalks of New York and Oh Miss Hannah.

One of the largest Beaverhead county high school classes, sixty-one seniors, will graduate at a gymnasium ceremony next Thursday. Baccalaureate will be Sunday evening at 8 at the Methodist church with Rev. F. X. Lechner of St. Rose. Class day is Wednesday, May 24, at the gym, with a concert by the school music department and participation by all musical groups.
