Beavers Send Eight Delegation to Tourney and Play

Normal College Track Team Attends State Meet

Coach C. K. Moes led the Normal college track team to Missoula for the annual collegiate meet. Runners Poppie Crossman Case Jenkins York and E Roberts competed. The Normal scored three points, with Poppie placing second in the javelin as the sole counter in a meet won by the University.

State College Glee Club and Ensemble Visit Dillon

The Montana State College glee club and a string ensemble will perform Friday evening at the State Normal College auditorium in Dillon. Violinists Frederick Crouse and Kenneth Wheat, both Dillon students, are among the orchestra members.

Spring Cleaning At Nupmat College Paints Large M

Students at Nupmat College skipped classes on Wednesday to whitewash the large M on the foothills west of town. The work took the morning and a noon picnic followed. Painting the M is an annual college tradition.

Convict Ed Baker Begins Six Month Prohibition Sentence

Ed Baker, convicted in district court of violating prohibition laws, begins a six month sentence in the county jail. A fine was imposed and the judgment was affirmed on appeal to the state supreme court by Judge Rodgers.

Frank Eliel Returns From Extended Tour

The Hon. Frank Eliel arrived back last Sunday from a three month trip to California and via the Panama canal. He visited Havana and other points en route, returning through New York City and Chicago. He reached Chicago in time for Marshall Field & Co. removal sale and made extensive purchases for Eliel Bros.

County Federation to Meet in Dillon

Mrs Warren Hughes president of Beaverhead County Federation of Women’s Clubs announced the semi annual meeting will be held in Dillon on June 7. Armstead Neighborhood Club members will be hostesses with an interesting program in the planning.

Recitals by Nellie Little Johnston Pupils Planned

On May 19 piano pupils from the training school will present the second in a series of recitals and the third will be offered on May 24. The first recital features training school pupils and the second high school pupils. Both programs take place at the training school auditorium.

Dairy men tour Galen and Warm Springs herds

A delegation of ten Dillon dairy men and Dr. A C Morrow left Thursday by car to inspect purebred dairy herds at state institutions in Galen and Warm Springs. Diocesan Convention Seen as Most Successful Yet

The twenty-seventh annual diocesan convention drew over one hundred delegates and clergy to St. James in this city. Highlights included Holy Communion led by Bishop Fox, sermons by Rev. F W Clayton, a Monday banquet, and a Sunday motor tour to Bannack. The event featured welcome mingled with civic praise and concluded with praise for hospitality.

Dillon Rotary discusses fiftieth anniversary plans

The Dillon Rotary club met to consider a fiftieth anniversary celebration in September linked with the county fair. D A Galt proposed a homecoming style event with old trains from Montana’s narrow gauge era, and officials plan to invite residents and visitors. DR R D Curry chaired the meeting and Frank Blel gave insights from his Panama Canal trip. Charles Henry was named club president and JT B E Gilbert as official delegate to the district convention in Rezan.

Beaverhead County Sheriff Race Opens with Four Candidates

Beaverhead county filed elections as Sheriff W C Orr announced on the Democratic ticket for a second term begun in 1926 and 1928. A L Anderson joined the race on the Republican side seeking the same office after serving since 1920. Dan Mooney filed on the Republican ticket and John S Baker, long time county official, indicated potential candidacy again.

Beaverhead Chapter D A R held its regular May meeting at Mrs. Elofson’s home with hostesses Mrs. Elofson and Miss Kathryn Van Noy. Sacajawea Day Picnic Plans For Lemhi County

Plans for a Sacajawea day gathering in August to honor the historic meeting of the Indian guide with Lewis and Clark were discussed by the Lemhi county mining associations. Beaverhead Mining assoc members heard Vincent Schmittroth present the proposal for a big program with speakers historians a band and barbecue. Special trains from Butte and Pocatello are being considered.

Wranglers Banquet Proves Enjoyable Yearend Affair

The Dillon Wranglers annual social event was held Wednesday at St James guild hall. Judge H G Rodgers presided as program featured secretary Charles Henry treasurer Fred Rife and Robert Clark reading on Celibacy. Delegates Attend Helena Baptist Convention Jubilee

Delegates from the First Baptist Church Dillon led by Rev R O Shannon and S E Trolinger depart Tuesday morning by automobile at 6 o'clock en route to the state Baptist convention in Helena. The trip marks the fiftieth anniversary of the Helena church. Delegates include Mrs Louise Taylor Mrs Margaret Bryant Mrs George Wolfe Mrs R M Gregg and Miss Sallie Baker.

Dillmont park hosted a Monday picnic for about 80 Boy Scouts and younger youths with many fathers present. The event featured games, a roast, and talks by Dr. W. H. Bea verhead county high school alumni association will host the annual dance for the graduating class at Dillmont park on May 23. The class has 49 members, one of the largest in recent years. Alumni inviting guests must submit names to W. M Stone promptly as invitations are nearly ready.

Mexican laborer dies after brief illness at Bedrock

Jose Velencia a Mexican laborer at Bedrock was brought to Barrett hospital Sunday afternoon in a dying condition and died Monday afternoon after a brief illness. He was 39 years old and relatives in Arizona are being sought.

Three Initiated Into Elks Lodge at Dillon

Initiation ceremonies were conducted for the first time by Dillon Lodge No. 1554 B P C E Tuesday evening. Bert Orr Matt Kay and George Smith were admitted as new members. A large attendance enjoyed refreshments and music with Melvin Smith and Frances Tonrey accompanying antlered songbirds. The annual dance is set for Dillmont park Friday night with the pavilion decorated.

Important Ranch Deal Near Bond Station

The I. F Hunsaker ranch near Bond station was sold this week to Meine Livestock company. The transfer was arranged through Lt Governor F A Hazelbaker. The 480 acre fully improved property included modern buildings and equipment. price not disclosed.

Graduation plans announced for Beaverhead County Class of 1949

One of the largest Beaverhead County High School graduation classes will receive diplomas May 28 during commencement led by Principal W. W. Wahl. Rev. H. N. Tragitt of St. James Episcopal Church will be the speaker. Baccalaureate services are May 25 at Grace Methodist Episcopal Church with Rev. J. D. Smith delivering the address. The annual concert is May 26, L. A. Gregory directs the orchestra and Lenore Thompson leads the glee club. Class day exercises are May 27 and spring term ends May 29, with the alumni dance at Dillmont Park May 23.

Beaverhead Future Farmers win stock judging title

The Beaverhead County High team won first in the Future Farmers stock judging contest held in Deer Lodge with four schools competing Missoula Deer Lodge Dillon and Whitehall. Gus Rody led the individuals with first scoring and a silver cup while Argyl Stephens and Carl Hansen finished third and fourth. Deer Lodge topped team points with Whitehall second and Dillon third. Twelve to seventeen boys toured local farms and ranches including Mount Hagen Rambouillet stock Pauley Williams and the Penitentiary farm to study livestock and farming methods.

Two Schools Tie In County Track Event

The sixth annual grade school track meet in Dillon drew 100 plus pupils and 20 teachers. Redrock and Blacktail tied for first with 62 points each. Blacktail won the pennant by a relay victory as Redrock had no relay team. Awards went to top scholastic and track performers including Alvin Erickson of Bedrock who swept his events.
