Plans for a Dillon fair include a carnival with a mammoth mercantile exhibit at the Wak National Bank Wool warehouse linked to the fairgrounds. Agricultural and livestock displays are expected to be the county’s largest, with expanded home and educational departments. Amusements will be on a grand scale featuring racing, wild west contests, athletic stunts, a balloon ascent, and an aerial circus. The premium list is set to be the largest in years with many prize increases.

State Air Cadets Meet Presents Unique Dillon Contest
Hundreds of Dillon residents and visitors attended the state meeting of the Air Cadets of America at the Normal College gym. Frank Hazelbaker Jr. won the silver loving cup with two perfect flights in his self built bomber. Bill McCullough of Butte took second place with entries from Sheridan, Butte and Dillon. Two Sheridan girls entered decorated planes. The event, organized by Girl Scouts and directed by George Melton and B J Gunderson, featured drills, music and dancing, with Betty Hall winning best stunt.

Sportsmen Plan an Active Season Here
At a well attended meeting at city hall fish ing and hunting enthusiasts outlined a predatory bird and animal drive. Madison county representatives sought Dillon sportsmen support for a Upper Ruby and Long creek game preserve to protect chickens for a period. Captains will be chosen soon for the drive. the club will not affiliate with the Butte association.

Scout Executive to Be in Dillon May 14
A. L. Krause, field executive for the Butte area council, will arrive in Dillon on May 14 for a week long school for prospective scoutmasters and to handle organization matters. Twenty eight men and boys are signed for the school and a St. Rose troop meeting will appoint a scoutmaster and organize the troop.

Annual Grade School Meet Opens in Dillon
The sixth annual grade school track meet begins in Dillon with pupils from nearly every rural school anticipated to attend. Friday features a one act play Dreamy Kid at the gym, hosted by visiting pupils. Saturday showcases contests from writing to arithmetic and the track events with Class A and B divisions for boys and girls, prizes donated by local merchants to be awarded Saturday afternoon.

Legion officials plan the Mining district convention to be held June 14 in Dillon. Delegates from Butte Anaconda Whitehall Philipsburg Deer Lodge and Dillon will attend a business session entertainment drum and bugle corps competition a banquet and a dance. Expected attendees include Al Livingston district commander Herbert Kibler state adjutant Harold De Pew department commander and other past state commanders.

Track Meet At Normal Training School Recap
At the annual meet held last Friday at Normal Training School pupils competed in sprints, jumps, and throws. Event results include Boys and Girls 50 and 100 yard dashes, 440 and 220 yard dashes, broad jumps, pole vaults, basketball and baseball throws, high jumps, shot put, and relay races across junior high to fourth grade divisions with numerous placements listed by team and pupil names.

Highway graveling under way on 60 mile state route
A crew of 80 men works day and night on the 60 mile state and federal highway between this city and Nisler with 80 to 100 additional workers planned for the summer. A camp at Dillmont park operates a rock crusher, and graveling costs about 218000 dollars. The southern end will start first due to dust, and after surfacing the road will be oiled along its entire length, becoming the state’s longest oiled stretch.

Census Shows Dillon Population At 2410 In 1980
Census enumerators completed Dillon count and sent returns to J K Hesler supervisor of the ninth Montana district. The 1980 population is 2410 a drop of 291 since 1920 but up 575 since 1910. County figures pending with Lima showing only a slight decline.

Government landing field leveled for smooth drive at 80 mph
Commerce Department posts a bid notice for leveling the town land field east of town. The 88.65 acre site requires filling holes and ridges, removing gophers and rodents, and smoothing ground so a car can travel at 80 miles an hour without discomfort.

Dansie Dominates District Meet for Beaverhead High
Major Dansie led Beaverhead county high school to fourth place at the Mining district track meet in Butte. He won the high hurdles and broad jump, placed second in the high jump, and scored 13 points. His times and jumps set district standards, with 16.6 seconds in the hurdles and 21 feet 4 inches in the broad jump. Dansie is slated to compete at the state meet in Missoula next week. Other Dillon competitors included Simons, Hansen, Starr, Erickson, L. English, and Nygren, with Coach Breeden guiding the team.
