Big Hole schools shine at county track meet

Jackson school won the meet with 47 points, Wisdom 24, Bannack 15, amid stormy weather and indoors for most events. Raymond Thompson led Bannack with 15 points, Jewell Romaine of Jackson was top girl scorer, and a large turnout from almost every district attended. A boxing card at Dillon drew fans, ending in a draw between Young Dempsey and Howard Ball.

Beaverhead Vocational Congress Huge Success

Despite bad weather the Beaverhead rural track meet and girls vocational congress drew delegates from nearly all county schools. Attendees shuttled between classes at the high school and a tour of Grandview poultry farm, with scholarship contests and gym events concluding the day. Betty Roe, Dorcas Hoff man, and Chandler Stallings were among contest winners.

Former Beaverhead County Man Makes Fortune From Oil

Arby Beardslee, once a sheep rancher near Lima, sold oil land holdings in the Kevis Sunburst field near Great Falls for 650000 cash and a large stock stake in the buyer. The Thomas E. Davis syndicate of Minneapolis bought the property, with L P Jackson of Shelby handling negotiations. A drilling program of 25 wells will begin, and the initial well on an 180 acre tract produced about 100 barrels per day.

Three County Graders Begin Work On County Roads

Three of the new combination scarifiers and graders are in operation smoothing highways. The Lima to Dillon main road, the Mountain View cemetery stretch, and the Big Hole basin route are being worked. Each grader uses 60 square feet of blades with drag and drag, operated by two men or dragged by a caterpillar engine. The Wehrgrader ferries streets of the city this week.

Rodeo at Wise River Promises Spectacle of Wild West Events
