Future Farmers Win at Bozeman
Beaverhead county high school livestock judging team coached by E. W. Bjorke won first place in the Montana state contests held in Bozeman last week. Members Wallis Banning John Sweeney and Joe Hermann led the team with Banning third high point overall and Sweeney ninth. Banning joined the all state judging team heading to Kansas City for the American Royal Livestock Exposition. John Sweeney was third in the horse division and Wallis earned ten dollars for top horse and mule division. A Future Farmers of America banner and a Moritana Wool Growers Association trophy were awarded Dillon for the team’s showing. They practiced judging after school and on Saturdays, competing against Missoula Flathead Polson and others, winning first in poultry judging at district, second in stock judging at Missoula, and first in stock judging at Whitehall.

Funeral services were held for Rich ard C Halliday a Dillon pioneer and former mayor who died last Thursday in Hollywood California The late Halliday came to Dillon c1880 worked in railroading operated a wholesale liquor house and had various ventures He served as Dillon mayor 1891 1892 He later moved to Spokane Rupert Idaho and California Surviving are his widow a son Tom Halliday and two California grandchildren

Joe Ritschel of Bealverhead county high school was elected president of the Montana Future Farmers of America at the sixth annual convention in Bozeman. About 350 youths attended, with four from Dillon. Ritschel has been active in local and state Future Farmer activities since entering school.

Argenta to Get Electric Lights from Groundhog Plant
Sharp visited Argenta and said the Groundhog Mining company will install a power plant to supply electricity for the pioneer mining camp and county. The town mill is expected to be lit by September 1 and a small plant already lights the mill.

Delegates Named for Rotary Meet in Dillon
The Dillon Rotary club named delegates for the district convention in Helena next week with President T. E. Luebben as chairman. Delegates are Luebben and D. R. E. Albright. two delegates from Dillon will attend. The meeting also discussed attacking youth baseball enrollment, sponsoring three juror teams, and a debate by Harold Wheat and Jack Reeves on federal aid to public schools.

Alleged Hit and Run Driver Caught Near Dell
Motorist M. D. Waring was arrested near Dell by Sheriff J. M. McCollum and Undersheriff C. E. Blinn on a charge of crashing into Mrs. Claude Downing’s car near Lima. Downing’s coupe sustained minor damage and passenger Duane Taft was injured. Waring, arrested after an all night search, was arraigned before Judge L. C. Ford and released after agreeing to cover car damage.

Keenan led a party on the first rattlesnake hunt of the season joined by Mr and Mrs Elmo Winn Alvin Jones Bill Ross of this city and Bill Sweet of Butte. Keenan captured mine matters and moving pictures were secured. Internal fighting produced bites but snakes were dispatched with clubs and venom outcomes unclear.

Beaverhead high schools revived track with an interclass meet. Top point scorers were Clifford Bay Clyde Brown Junior Ditty and Francis Tenney. Events crowned winners in high jump broad jump pole vault discus javelin shot put and multiple sprints and distances. Senior team Brown Cashmore Stephan Tonrey won the relay in 1 49.

J. E. Monroe Named New Beaverhead High School Head
Joseph E. Monroe, former president of Montana State Normal College and noted educator, was appointed principal of Beaverhead County High School by the school board on Wednesday evening. He succeeds W. W. Wahl who resigned to lead Helena High School. Monroe has lived in Dillon since 1897 and has held faculty and presidential roles at the State Normal College.

Woman Pioneer of Bannack Dies at 74
Mrs. Elizabeth S. Robbins born at Barnack died last Friday at her son Earl Robbins home in Radersburg at age 74. She spent most of her life in Montana with later years in Butte near relatives. Burial Sunday beside her husband James A. Robbins at Townsend.
