Battle of the Big Hole celebration postponed

Big Hole basin residents oppose the August 7 semi centennial celebration date as ranchers are in haying season. Commissioner J E Shaw, visiting Dillon, says a later date is more logical and the community wants to support the movement but cannot with the current date.

Huge Wolf Pelt Captured Near Medicine Lodge

Victor Westegaard of Armstead arrived Thursday with part of his winter fur haul including a massive wolf pelt from the Medicine Lodge section. The animal is among the largest killed in years and is suspected in preying on several cattle in the area.

Williamson passes after sudden illness in Dillon

Samuel A. Williamson, longtime Dillon resident born July 12, 1858 in Dutquon Illinois, died at his South Atlantic street home after a paralytic stroke. He taught, ranched in Leadore Idaho, retired in 1905 to Dillon, married Lulu Mulkey in 1896, daughter Mrs. Fred Woodside. survivors include wife, daughter, two Berkeley sisters. Funeral held at Baptist church with Rev. R. O. Shannon. interment Mountain View cemetery.

Farm Goods and Livestock Auction Near Apex

One of the valley’s largest farm auctions is set for Beaverhead Ranch Company three miles south of Apex on Tuesday March 15. W M Harrness and R M Harrison offer horses and mules milk cows hogs turkeys chickens plus harness wagon hay baler Fordson tractor mowing machine rake plows and cultivators and household goods all in first class condition. Luther S Smith will be auctioneer. An extended sale list appears elsewhere in this week’s Tribune. An Irish chiropodist claims to have removed coins from Europe’s crowned heads.

Legion Minstrels Play to Two Large Houses

The American Legion minstrel and vaudeville at Hartwig theater drew two full houses last Thursday and Friday. Anson Baxter directed a strong chorus with standout end men and soloists led by Lawrence Price and Harry Johnson. The show featured Mother Goose Glimpses and other acts, with Bea verhead post benefiting financially and planning a new club house.

Drilling Work Launch Near Frying Pan Basin

Two carloads of drilling gear for the Frying Pan basin operation arrived in the city this week. Gerald Bostwick-Well leads transport to the site as a steel derrick and modern machinery are prepared. The Crowley Oil company leases will be drilled by Hagenbarth Greene with plans to reach 3000 feet.

Another Big Horse Sale Planned for March 25

A wire from George Ditty states two carloads of horses in Idaho and Utah will be offered at the Dillon yards on March 25. The sale mirrors the Feb 28 event, which drew strong demand for farm and ranch work horses and good prices, with Ditty touring the county to gather stock for a sale expected to surpass the last.

County Dads End Important Meeting Wed in Montana

Beaverhead county commissioners met in Dillon on March 7 1927 with A L Anderson Q O C Gosman and J E Shaw present. The February work was approved and each commissioner authorized to inspect and direct road bridge projects and county buildings in their districts.

Mulaney Wins Default Judgment in Three Civil Actions

A default judgment was entered last Saturday in three civil suits brought by Tom Mulaney against Sk QO Selway Roscoe Cornell and others. The docket also noted a verdict for John Buneu in a suit against Albert Schultz for 26.50 with no costs. The Montana Mercantile case against Berg Christiansen was dismissed as settled. Judge Lyman H. Bennett will preside over remaining docketed cases. A directed verdict granted to Mrs Carrigan returned possession of the ranch to her. Leod Brenner of Grant was excused.

Chevrolet Rep Makes Hasty Salmon Trip

T. J. Casey of Chevrolet for the western U S, Anson Baxter of Montana Auto Supply, and A. W. Stevenson of Montana Air Service flew to Salmon Idaho to transact business. Casey, one of Montana’s busiest men, used a Montana Air Service Waco plane to complete the trip in a day, citing high demand for Chevrolet cars this year and interest in new body designs at the Montana Auto Supply salesrooms.

Civil cases reported in jury panel update

Two civil suits, Joe Rebich versus Martin Markovitch and Harry McKinster versus A. K. Prescott, were dismissed as settled. The Waldorf company against Dan F. Mooney, sheriff, was continued for the term.
