In Oakland last week a Southern Pacific train prepared to depart as six well kept automobiles arrived. A well dressed man exited each car, followed by his wife who took the wheel to drive home. The couples were prosperous looking and proud of the arrangement.

John Hildreth and Clarence Koenig of Armstead become new owners of the Ewing Dairy north of Dillon. They plan a pasteurizing plant, a concrete milk house, herd expansion, and will run the established business formerly operated by Clifford Ewing. Work at the Hagenbarth-Greene oil well progresses toward spudding in by April 5. Timbers and a 13,000 pound boiler have arrived and the derrick crew from Casper, Wyoming, prepares the site for heavy timber floor and machinery setup. Beaverhead post of the American Legion held a Thursday meeting to plan an entertainment for contributors to the minstrel show. Officials discussed district and national convention participation and agreed to publish at least one post paper in a membership drive before Helena. The post now has 36 members and aims for 100 by the state convention. Committees were formed for various duties including resolutions, publicity, welfare, and Americanization under Commander George R. Baker.
Satisfactory progress is reported on the proposed new state highway from Browne's bridge south. D W Cadmus and C C Covington oversee surveying with two assistants. Their figures will guide contract letting for construction expected in about two months.
The March term of the district court closed with the jury panel discharged. The final case, H. G. Rodgers et al. v J. B. Elmose, settled by stipulation and dismissed. Peterson v Nelson ended in favor of Nelson. non-suit granted for costs. One criminal case and 14 civil cases disposed. Judge Bennett and Rodgers presided. session since Feb 28. Carrigan v Osbourne judgment orders immediate ranch vacate.
Mr and Mrs Fred Woodside left Wednesday for California via Spokane in a 1927 Buick sedan to deliver the car to Mrs N M White in Berkley. They will visit relatives about a week then return by train to Portland for a Chevrolet dealers meeting before likely returning to Dillon around April 1.

The first large shipment of winter fattened cattle left Divide for South St Paul Minnesota last Thursday, about 500 head from the Big Hole basin. Additional smaller consignments from Mopida Armstead and Dillon followed, with an estimated 2,000 head shipped in two weeks. Buyers arrive daily as prices from 8 to 8 1/4 cents draw activity. lambs and wool markets show quieter trends. Ranchers report ample hay and overall good livestock condition across the county.

The card in Lima features Mehrlich Stephanich, with Washington substituting for Stephanich, and 23 rounds headed by a main event between Gussy Rondo and Howard Ball. Officials expect 100 Dillon visitors and favorable rail fares.
The fishing season ends last Monday with Montana anglers resting until May 20. Despite high muddy water and strong winds, many shores saw good catches of trout. Locals, fewer in number, explored golf but anticipate better spring days and a hoped for new course.
