The Beaverhead forest will carry 29 152 cattle and horses and 161 065 sheep for 1939. Usable grazing acres total about 1 200 000 of 1 998 000. Cattle mainly in Dillon district and sheep in Sheridan district.
Officers of Dillon chapter No 8 Royal Arch Masons will travel to Butte on Friday evening March 10 to exemplify work in the Royal Arch degree. Members seeking transportation may call Matt Kau or Bert Megquier.
Isaac Marble 85 longtime Beaverhead County resident died at his cabin near the Roy Selway ranch following a brief illness. Born June 4 1854 in Effingham NL he came to Minnesota in 1866 and Montana in 1867 later settling in Centennial valley. He married Jeasie Tibbles February 1 1897. Funeral services were held at Brundage funeral home with Rev J A Meeke officiating and burial in Mountain View cemetery.
Dave Baulieu 68 died Saturday morning at his Wise River cabin. Deputy Gordon and H M Brundage brought the body to Dillon. A native of Maine he lived on Horse Prairie for years employed on ranches and had resided in Wise River the past two years. Survived by one brother living in Sidney Montana. CUPID TAKES oe
R M Barrett was elected to head the Dillon Gun Club for the coming year at the secretary’s office Tuesday night. Officers named include William Steele as vice president Sam Langdorf as field captain and Ross Emerick re elected secretary treasurer. Plans were made for the home and bacon event the club’s first official shoot of the year set for next Sunday at 10 a m at the Dillon Country Club traps.
Forest Bayerd reports continued work on the WPA project at Mountain View cemetery with 1,900 feet of pipe laid from the lower end toward the upper section. The Dillon Business and Professional Women's club sponsors the project which includes drilling a well, installing pipe, building a 70,000 gallon cement reservoir, a pump house, landscaping, and a stone archway using cut stone from the old high school. Frost permitting in spring will allow reservoir construction to begin. Evergreen trees will be planted and other landscaping planned.
Beav erhead post of the American Legion postpones the regular meeting from Thursday March 9 to Saturday night March 18 at the Metlen hotel. The event marks the twentieth anniversary of the Paris caucus with special presentations including a past commanders badge to Alvin M. Jones and a Legion banner birthday gift to Beaverhead post. Beaverhead withdraws invitation to hold the next Mining district Legion meeting in Dillon in a gesture to Jefferson post at Whitehall. A Dutch lunch will follow the business and ceremonies.
At a Dillon volunteer fire department meeting on Tuesday nominees were named for 1939 including Otto Vandegrift as fire chief, Bob Moss as assistant fire chief, James M. McCullum secretary, Dell Lloyd treasurer, C. M. Casterline and Tom Pinkerton directors, Eddie Eales and Vincent as additional members.
Montana legislators wrap up the 26th assembly with no new taxes, cutting appropriations to align expenses with expected revenues. Rural bills pass including grass conservation districts and soil board reorganization, while labor measures fail. The session sees a dramatic 30 day divorce bill and gambling bills die, and an impeachment attempt against Attorney General Freebourn falls short. Governor Ayres vetoes the divorce bill.
Howard Griffin, superintendent of Montana feeble minded schools, spoke at the Dillon Rotary Club on the Boulder state institution. He described a 1 million dollar plant with 500 inmates, capacity 750, and funding limits. He noted subnormal residents from 39 Montana families and three inmate classes, stressing national scope of the issue. Gilbert Hilde chaired. James Albertson was introduced as guest.

Rev and Mrs H N Tragitt and daughter Sue depart for Burbank California where Rev Tragitt will fill the pulpit of the Episcopal church in the Los Angeles diocese. He has led St James Episcopal church since July 1928, after coming from Detroit Lakes Minnesota. The St James vestry has not announced a successor.
Ted Renfro of Dell and Dillon Gun Club won the international flyer trapshooting championship in Kansas City with a 92 at 33 yards, defeating a field that included Herman Peterson and Otto Sehula. He earned $668.30. Fred Etchen and Ed Levyben were runners up, with Gar Moss in third. Renfro also defended the interstate cup with a perfect 25 and, with partner Joe Heistand, posted a 50 in a $200 purse event.
Joe G. Brown pleaded guilty to grand larceny and was sentenced by Judge Henry G. Rodgers to two years in the state penitentiary after waiving the time to plead. He was charged with stealing a diamond ring a valuable wrist watch and some money from Jean Jones on February 18.
Word reached Mr and Mrs C P Thomas of the death of their son in law Rev Lee H Young after a brief illness at his Eugene home He had retired from the pulpit and earlier served as a minister at the Episcopal church in Dillon He is survived by four children his wife Juanita Thomas and the funeral will be held at 10 30 Thursday with burial in a Eugene cemetery
Lee M. Berger and Frances A. Ansel of Butte were united in marriage on Sunday afternoon. The ceremony was performed by Father F. %. Lecturer of St. Rose Catholic Church. Witnesses included Nelton C. Collins.
Washington approved an enlarged Jefferson Valley Rural Electrification Cooperative extension to bring power to Suicelito Beaverhead valley area and Lima. About 176 miles of line will cost roughly 1 000 per mile with total funding near 176 000. bids set for April 3 atTwin Bridges, with work starting soon after.
Bernard R Williams secretary of Beaverhead county agriculture conservation committee announces a series of meetings over the next ten days to discuss the 1939 agricultural conservation program. Farmers and ranchers are urged to attend in Dillon Reichle Dell Armstead Wise River Wisdom Jackson and Grasshopper Valley to receive program details and guidance.
Beav erhead chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution marks its birthday with a Tuesday night dinner hosted by Miss Clara Plant. Members then moved to Mrs. T F McFadden's home for a commemorative program.
