New WPA Projects To Start Soon In Dillon
WPA administrator Toke Contway announced several new projects to start after the new fiscal year July 1. Current projects employ 142 men, including a county road improvement with a 123 135 dollar budget begun February 6, and proposed graveling of city streets with 22 545 dollars. Other planned works include Beaverhead high school grounds improvements, Wisdom school upgrades, a Dillon curling room project, Kelly Creek reservoir, and Mountain View cemetery water facilities. The cemetery project began with well drilling under M M Ulrich of Missoula and is expected to finish in about ten days. Afterward, the BPW will purchase a pump and power line materials, with a 2400 dollar drive goal still short. New contributors include State Greenhouse and Floral Co. and several individuals.

Shoplifters Given Short Jail Terms in City Court
Two men pled guilty to theft in a justice court before Judge George Opp. Harry Nicholas received 30 days for stealing an $8 pair of shoes from City Shoe. Jim Burns got 60 days for the alleged ham theft at Safeway.

Legion Falls to Butte Miners in Zone Play
Idaho Falls Legion juniors opened with a 10-3 win over Dillon’s Spud City team while Dillon fell to Butte 6-2 in a separate zone contest. The butte miners built early leads on errors and timely hits as Wilson and McLaren both worked well on the mound. Bradley fanned six over six innings for Dillon.

Wool Buyers Inspect Clips at Dillon Warehouse
Last week the first shipment of the Cook Sheep Co. clip arrived, about 10 000 fleeces bought by Munroe Kincaid and Edgehill of Boston via Sam Ditty and H E Morse. Buyers from across the country visit Dillon to view this year's clip as wool pours into one of the nation’s largest warehouses amid wet weather delaying shearing.

Dillon Matron Mary Hauser Dies After Long Illness
Mary Hauser a longtime Montana resident died at her Thomson Ave home Tuesday after a prolonged illness. The 73 year old Germany native lived in Dillon and nearby mining towns with husband Casper, who died two years ago. She was a Catholic and Neighbors of Woodcraft member. Survived by son George Greiner of Bartlesville Oklahoma and sister Mrs Fred Hagen of Pierce City Missouri. Funeral services were held at St Rose Church with burial in Mountain View Cemetery.

Dillon Dentist Heads Coast Conference Clinic Tour
Dr. F H Bimrose leaves Thursday for Vancouver to present a clinic at the Pacific Coast Dental Conference July 4 to 8. Mrs Bimrose accompanies him. Over 500 dentists from eight states and British Columbia are expected. His clinic on Low Fusing Baker Porcelain Inlays drew praise at the Montana state society meeting in Anaconda last year. Montana dentists W W Cloyd and C H Swanson also take part. Frank Paul, formerly of Dillon, was in town.

Budget-Bursting 75th Congress Closes After 54 Days
Washington reports the 75th Congress adjourned after a 54 day session that appropriated 12 321 635 000 dollars, boosting all three sessions total to 21 656 174 000. Deficit projections rose to 3 722 000 000 for 1939 with debt crossing 40 billion next year. It approved minimum wages 25 cents hour 44 hours week and a 40 40 standard after seven years. It also overrode the president on land loan rates and moved rail workers under federal unemployment insurance.

Students Tour Yellowstone Park in Fourth of July Trip
A large party of Montana State Normal college students will depart Friday for a Yellowstone park tour during the Fourth of July holiday. Heavy Rain and Flood Damage Across Northern Montana
Heavy rainstorms drenched the region with 1.13 inches in June at the Normal weather station. Divide creek floods swamped rail lines near Woodin and Divide, washing 900 feet of track bed and blocking service. Havre, Helena, and Big Hole basin saw severe flooding with cars moved, basements flooded, and two feet of water on Divide Wisdom highway. Nine deaths were reported in AP dispatches from Havre to Jordan.

PWA Grant Secured For Beaverhead County High School
Senator Wheeler reports a 123 750 grant from the Public Works Administration to build a new Beaverhead county high school at 275 000 total cost. The grant covers 45 percent with 55 percent funded by county via government bonds at four percent interest. Plans by Hugenin and DeKay call for a two story modern facility with labs shops home economics auditorium and gym. Principal Conrad Orr is at the state university in Missoula during summer session.
