Plans are under way for an invitational golf tournament at Dillon Country Club on Sunday July 12. Golfers from Butte Anaconda and Deer Lodge will be guests. a dinner will conclude the event. Committees will arrange details to ensure a pleasant visit for visiting players.
The Dillon Country club women announce the second annual tourney on Sunday from 7 to 9 am. After play a breakfast at Dillmont park will follow with entertaining features planned. Members expect several more novel contests this season and ask all participants to report by 7 am for pairings and completed matches.
The forestry service completed beetle control on the Ruby and Blacktail sections after months of work. About 59 000 acres were treated and over 6 000 trees sprayed with hot oil to curtail damage. Francis Carroll led the operation with crews at Nelson Sprinkle ranch and various Madison area sites finishing June 23.
At the Dil lon Rotary Club meeting Frank Kliel presided and members voted to shift weekly meetings to Monday evenings at 6 30 instead of noon A large attendance included guests Om Moran and Professor Thomas of the Normal College The principal address by Rev FP X Lechner covered international relations and the current business and industrial outlook abroad with insights into Europe's future.
Mrs L R Grannis 76 beloved matron of Wise River died Sunday at her daughter’s home eleven days after her husband’s death. The Grannis family settled in Nevada and Montana since the 1860s and lived in Dillon for many years. Burial was in Dewey cemetery beside her husband with Christian Science service led by L Q Dwight. Survived by two daughters Mrs Warren Hughes and Mrs G J Carter two sons George Grannis and L R Grannis three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Mrs. Anastacia Savacool wife of Abraham Savacool longtime Dillon businessman died at home on Railroad avenue Tuesday evening after a lingering illness. A native of Ireland born 60 years ago she came to Beaverhead County 42 years ago with her family. Survived by husband sister Mrs. Richard Gallagher of Santa Monica California and brother Jack OBrien. Funeral from St Rose Catholic Church Saturday at 9 30 a m requiem high mass.
A six mill special tax levy is proposed in School District No. 10 to retire a $9,000 registered indebtedness bearing six percent interest. Trustees report operating savings of 25 percent over five years, but district income has fallen about 20 percent. A favorable vote is sought June 27 to cover the floating debt and maintain funding for the State Normal college and local school operations.
Corvallis reports the first cutting of alfalfa from fields east of town with mowing machines in use last week. T. R. Glass and Hall brothers among growers starting, fair crop noted. William Wehr has begun haying south of town. Home grown strawberries and small fruit expected to be plentiful with fair quality, horticulturists say.
Dr. Frank Ernest Hill will discuss The Career of a Modern Book on July 13. July 15 features a full day of talking pictures with over thirty reels and speakers. Also planned are music performances by Miss Ivy Hendricks, Ethel Wright, and Tom Fuson, plus a July 28 assembly talk and an August 3 concert. A later talk by Alfred le Hall-Quest highlights the education credits system, followed by a long list of student grades and credits across Montana towns.
Mrs. J. A. Best, longtime Dillon resident, died June 15 at a Redondo Beach hospital after collapsing on a bus while returning from a picnic. Funeral and burial occurred in Redondo Beach beside her husband, who died two years prior. Before marriage she ran a Dillon dressmaking shop.
Mrs. Cora J. Stanfield wife of Ray Stanfield city employee died at her home Wednesday morning after months of illness Born in Alberta Missouri 34 years ago she lived in Beaverhead county on a Reichle area ranch She is survived by a daughter Ita May father John Hale and two sisters Mrs Harry McMannis and Mrs George Lloyd Funeral at Grave Methodist Church with Rev J D Smith officiating. Interment Mountain View Cemetery assistance from local authorities noted.
Frank Brenneis, an aged prospector in the Grant region, died Sunday at Barrett hospital after several weeks illness and a May 10 cabin fire. A Germany native who settled in this county 35 years ago, he is survived by a Kansas niece and nephew. Interment was at Mountain View cemetery following services at Brundage chapel.
The Rev. A M Skindlev of Spokane president of the Rocky Mountain district visited Dillon for the installation of Rev. Schmidt as pastor of the Dillon Lutheran Church. Schmidt, a St Paul seminary graduate, succeeds Rev. Hanson who resigned due to ill health. Impressive services drew many Beaverhead residents. The Lutherans occupy the old St Rose Catholic church.
Joseph Carder age 54 a Lima resident dies in Lima after a short pneumonia illness. He worked at Gleed Bros ranch and had long worked in and around Lima. Carder a Missouri native is survived by three nephews who came to Lima for the funeral arrangements. His body was sent to Salt Lake City for burial.
Death of Mrs A J Faust widow of a prominent ranchman from the Sweetwater area. Born May 27 1888 in Macomb Illinois she lived in Washington state as a child moved to Montana in 1916 married two years later and made her home here. Survived by daughter Wanda Cochran brother Argyle O Dell sister Floy Deegan and four stepchildren. Funeral held Thursday at Grace Methodist church with Rev J D Smith officiating and burial at Mountain View Cemetery.
A Dillon delegation of Neighbors of Woodcraft travels by auto to Livingston for the district convention on June 26 and 27. Grand representatives include Mrs. Florence Hughes and Mrs. Osie Smith with district delegates Mrs. Mae Main Mrs. Helen Talent Georgia Deputy Mrs. Freddie Taylor Mrs. Nellie Nelson and Mrs. Gertie Lyon attending.
