Lieutenant-Governor F. A. Hazel baker is to be officially adopted by the Crow Indian tribe at Liv ingston on opening day of the Livingston Roundup. Over 125 Crow members will take part, with Chief Plentycoos presiding. The ceremony will grant him an Indian name reflecting his office or character.
Mrs. Raymond Watkins of Portland and her daughters Betty Jean and Nancy Rae visited friends in Dillon this week. Mrs. Watkins, formerly Maude Stone, was a longtime public school worker here. Dr. Watkins, a Portland physician, will join them later in summer and they plan a return tour of Glacier National Park.
Three Butte men were arraigned before Judge L P Phil lips in justice court after being charged with dynamiting fish in Horse Prairie creek. They pleaded not guilty and posted $1000 bonds to appear for trial on July 15. Deputy Game Warden Charles Price arrested them following Armstead complaints. Conviction carries a heavy fine, and this marks a rare wave of fish-killing complaints in the area.
In a special election last Saturday, voters in school district No. 10 including Dillon public schools defeated a six-mill tax levy by 60 to 22. The proposal would have raised funds to pay off $9,000 in outstanding warrants and would have added to the existing 10-mill levy.
Announcement states Miss Ruth Hale sister of Chester Hale of this city married Frederick William Plate in Berkeley California on June 27. The notice notes the Dillon friends receiving the announcement.
Due to a prior match between Butte Country club members and Lakeshore club on Sunday July 12, the invitational local course event scheduled for that date has been postponed.

In Dillon district court this week, Lottie B. Hansen and others sue Nap Goyer over water rights on Dyer Creek. Judge Lyman H. Bennett presided. testimony from Bannack area residents was heard as evidence closed. A second case, Montana Life Insurance Co. versus Albert J. Bean and others, concerns Clover Creek in Centennial valley.
The five mile surface south of Dillon was finished early this week from Atlantic street to the mixing plant on the highway. Crude oil is spread on gravel then rolled to a smooth finish thought to rival concrete. J A Maguire Co. begins seven mile second stretch to Daly's spur with completion set for September 1.
Dillon visitors report a dance planned at Robbers Roost near Laurin Madison county on July Fourth night. The historic site, once dilapidated, has been restored by the current owner. The second floor will host a live jazz event with an old time mechanical piano and melodeon while the lower floor bar becomes a soft drink counter.
In Glendale Montana a town once bustling now ghosted after decades, the Glendale Cornet Band faced a funeral without a learned dirge. A prominent resident died and the band had to improvise as the town faded from memory.
Dillon expects its quietest Fourth in years with no formal city celebration. Dances at Dillmont Park run Friday and Saturday with Baxter Tonney, Fay's Hawaiians perform at Melrose, and numerous picnics and resort gatherings planned around Reichle, Browne’s Lake, and Elkhorn Springs. Elks drum corps will ride a special train to Seattle for the national convention.
The Dillon Rotary club met Monday evening with Joe Wedum in the chair. President S. E. Davis of the Normal college delivered a patriotic talk on the Declaration of Independence, outlining events leading to its signing and sharing related history. Dr. R. D. Curry showed a Osaka paper in English with engaging articles about Japan. A treasurer’s report and books audit completed the program.
The Bitter Root Montana state flower is growing in the National Girl Scout Little House rock garden in Washington DC through efforts of Butte Montana Girl Scout council members. Scouts mailed plants after digging them outside Butte and the gift arrived thriving, with thanks from hostess Mrs G I Bowman.
Manager Jackson announces dances at Dillmont park on Friday and Saturday nights this week. Music both evenings will be provided by the Baxter Tonrey orchestra.
The Rev. and Mrs. R. O. Shannon entertained Wednesday evening with a delightful dinner party. Guests included Mrs. Lulu E. Matteson and daughter Miss Jean Matteson of Santa Barbara California and Mr. and Mrs. F. E. Foote.
Under Coach Breeden the college moves basketball and track coaching into the core study plan. Football methods have been dropped as graduates rarely use them.
The A. E. Scott wool clip sale to Eiseman Bross of Boston sets a new local peak and is believed to be the highest price in the state. Across Montana 14 to 16 events are noted, but Dillon shows watchful waiting as major consignments remain limited aside from the Cook Sheep clip and Henry Thompson listings.
Members of Dillon lodge Elks drum and bugle corps plan to attend the national convention in Seattle July 6 to 9. The Montana drum corps from Butte, Lutte, Anaconda and Dillon lodges will travel by special Northern Pacific train with a Spokane stop, followed by a parade. Practice at the fair grounds is set for 7 p.m. each evening.
Arrested last Thursday afternoon by city police a transient named Ted Golden is held at the county jail on a charge of forgery. It is alleged he passed two checks for 16.50 each on local businesses. Golden, whose right name is believed Jones, has acted queer since arrest and he may be examined by a sanity commission.
Miss Elvira Call of Dillon wed Roy Lien in a June ceremony at the bride’s home in Klamath Falls Oregon. The couple, attended by Elroy Call, received relatives and friends, then began a short honeymoon before settling in Klamath Falls where Mr Lien works.
The thirty fourth annual catalog highlights last year’s progress at the Normal College. Regular term attendance rose 12 percent from the prior year. Men numbered 78 and women 881, with 31 in music, 200 in correspondence study, and 31 in extension classes. County distribution and regional origins are detailed.
The Commercial Service association launches a 30 day circulation experiment using five dollar checks. Buyers deposit proceeds in local banks to cover payments, endorsements will track transactions, and a five cent issue fee applies. Lieutenant Governor Frank A. Hazelbaker bought certificate No. 1.
