John Trumbull and the Battle That Saved His Life in Paris
The Connecticut artist who painted the Battle of Bunker Hill later used that work to secure a passport out of Revolutionary France. Trumbull, once Washington’s adjutant general and student of Benjamin West, navigated danger in Paris during Robespierre's era. He sought Louis David's help, and a quick exit was earned when David claimed the painting was worth many passports. Trumbull returned to America and completed major Revolutionary canvases, ending in poverty before Yale secured his remaining works for an annuity.

New Refrigeration System Combines Propane Cycle with Engine
Dr. Peter Schlumbohm, New York engineer, proposes a refrigeration method using propane as the refrigerant and then burning the gas in a motor to drive the unit. The system draws propane from common drums, compresses it to liquid, vaporizes it to cold gas, and feeds it into a combustion chamber of a motor to operate the device, aiming at rural and tropical applicability.
