Smith Elected Association Head in Beaverhead Mining Meeting
Senator Pearl I. Smith was elected president of the Beaverhead Mining Association at the annual meeting held in the district court room. George French of Argenta was elected vice president, Roy Herndon re elected secretary, and district representatives largely kept their posts with two replacements in Argenta. A geologic survey petition was signed and a government survey report is due in about 30 days. The association picnic is set for August 17 at Sacajawea park.

Pinochle Club Closes Series With Hartwig Theatre Party
The B. and B. Pinochle club wrapped up its second meeting series with a theatre party at Hartwig to see Hold Everything. Sixteen members attended and supper followed at the Dew Drop Inn. The Afternoon Sewing club hosted twenty husbands at Ziegler Springs last Sunday for an enjoyable afternoon.

Spring Golf Tournament to Begin Next Sunday
Men members of the Dillon County club will start the annual spring championship next Sunday with first rounds. Qualifying rounds due by Saturday, to be left with Fred Mazzie at the clubhouse or handed to a sports committee member. Three flights are planned: championship, president, and first flight, with hopes for full participation.

Death claims George D. Rice a Beaverhead figure
George D. Rice died Friday at Murray hospital in Butte after weeks of lung illness. The Idaho native, 33, lived in Beaverhead County, worked as a rancher and bookkeeper, and served as assistant postmaster at Monida. Survived by wife, daughter Kathryn, parents, and three brothers. Funeral held at Grace Methodist Church with Dillon Lodge honors. Interment Mountain View.

Beaverhead Federation Women Meet in Dillon for Resolutions
Beaverhead County Federation of Women's Clubs held an all day session in Dillon at St. James guild hall. Lt Gov Hazel baker spoke on Montana in 1930 and others addressed vocational guidance and education. A new club joined the federation and a three mill tax and bond issue was proposed. Resolutions were passed endorsing federation activities.

Razing of the frame building at Washington and Helena streets ends a Dillon landmark dating to before the town’s founding. Built by James and Robert Kirkpatrick near Blacktail Creek, it housed a store and post office named Edgerton, later moved with the Utah and Northern railroad, then became a rooming house before being acquired by Jack McLaren.

Huge eagle spotted near Lovell Lake with snake grasp
A party traveling to Lovell Lake observed a large five foot wingspan eagle on a telephone pole with a snake clutched in its talons. They believed the snake was a rattler and watched the bird move between poles before it flew off.

Former Normal Student Killed in Auto Wreck
W. A. Rollwitz a former Montana State Normal college student who graduated in 1918 was killed instantly when his car was struck by a train at the Drummond crossing. Fred H. Mass survived with minor injuries. Rollwitz, a former Phillipsburg grade school principal, left a wife and two children.

War Vets Meet in Dillon for Quarterly American Legion Convention
American Legion delegates from the mining district including Butte Anaconda Philipsburg Twin Bridges Deer Lodge and other cities arrive in Dillon for the Beaverhead post hosted convention. A 3 PM business meeting at city hall a 7 30 PM banquet at Andrus Hotel and a 9 30 PM drum corps drill at Dillmont park pavilion are planned along with a district auxiliary meeting and a 4 PM tea at the Country Inn with hostesses from the local auxiliary.
