Unidentified Man Dies By Own Hand In Box Car
A 55 year old man found in a southbound freight box car near Melrose and Dillon died by suicide. Transients aboard the train testified to hearing only a muffled cry as he slashed his throat, trials of questioning followed, and an inquest ruled death self inflicted. Burial occurred with no identifying documents found.

Former Dillon Resident Sallie Maurer Dies in Los Angeles
Mrs. Sallie Morton Maurer longtime Dillon resident died last Saturday at her Los Angeles home after a lingering illness. Born May 9 1869 in Mayfield Kentucky she married Christopher Maurer here in 1891 and they ran a local ranch before moving to California in 1913. Survivors include her husband two daughters Mrs Howard Morse and Mrs Harry Barnett two sons Locke and Milton all of Los Angeles two brothers John W and Robert Morton of Mountain Home Idaho and four sisters Mrs Alex Hall Culver City Calif Mrs Walter Taylor of Dillon Mrs EK J Gills Sandy Utah and Mrs Harry Geer of San Diego.

Mrs. Mary H. York, longtime resident of Dillon before 1911, died last Monday at her daughter Mrs. Fred Moore’s home in Anaconda after a lingering illness. Born January 1, 1857 in Nebraska, she belonged to the First Baptist church and Anaconda Rebekah lodge. Funeral held Wednesday. survivors include her daughter and grandson Milton Moore, four sisters L E Culver, A L Cole, Annie Carson, and a brother David Hackett, with Henry Hackett's death noted in October.

Highway Worker Langdorf Injured In County Truck Crash
Sam Langdorf, 30, a county road crew worker, suffered a fractured skull and crushed chest when a county truck skidded on gravel on cemetery road late Tuesday. He was on a rear platform with Ernest Denny. truck driver Lewis Thompson and Denny escaped. Langdorf remained in critical condition at Barrett hospital after the vehicle was rushed there by Quitman Owen.

Memorial Day Rites Observed in Dillon by American Legion
Memorial day services were held at Mountain View cemetery in Dillon by Beaverhead post of the American Legion. Veterans’ graves were decorated with flags, wreaths placed, and a firing salute given. The high school band performed, taps was sounded, and a prayer offered. The crowd gathered despite bad weather, laying flowers for departed loved ones.

Brown's Lake Opens Under New Management
A large crowd visited Brown's lake last Sunday for the official opening of the resort under new management. The camp cabins have been repaired and refinished with many improvements including a graded road and removed rocks. Brown's lake will operate as a dude ranch offering fishing after opening, motor boating, hiking, horseback trips and other recreations. Reservations for pack trips may be made through Clyde Edwards.

Luther Drury Graeter died after months of illness in Arcata California. Born July 28 1862 in Highgate Vermont he came to Bannack in the 1860s and later managed the Graeter Grocery in Dillon. Survived by widow Harriet two daughters and three sons and a brother and sister. Funeral in Arcata Thursday.

Beaverhead County High School Holds Large Commencement
One of the largest graduating classes in Beaverhead County High School history received diplomas Thursday evening at the gymnasium. Sixty one candidates received their Sheepskins. Valedictorian Tom Hartwig and salutatorian Marguerite Collins led the speakers, with Helen Devaney Frank Tyre and Jean Hoffman also addressing the crowd. Diplomas were presented by J. H. Gilbert, school board chairman. The Rev H N Tragitt offered invocation and benediction, while the high school orchestra directed by L A Gregory provided music including a violin and cello duet by Leone Cashmore and Lulu Belle Gilman.

Thomas F. Barrett, early Beaverhead County rancher and former county commissioner, died at his Dillon home after a long illness. Born in Ontario in 1854, he moved from Kansas, established a Grant area ranch in 1874, retired to Dillon in 1916, and leaves two daughters Nancy and Constance, two sons Elmer and Chester, plus siblings. Funeral was held at St Rose Church with high mass and interment at Mountain View Cemetery.
