Beaverhead Candidates Lead in State and Local Primary Returns

Beaverhead's only statewide candidate Frank A Hazelbaker leads the gubernatorial nomination with about 23 012 votes from 578 precincts to 9 488 for the opposition Crosby and Orr win the sheriff nomination in the county contest with 71 percent turnout overall 2509 votes cast of 3545 registered and Dillon showing a higher rate than outer precincts New records for turnout are set in Beaverhead County in this primary election.

E F Gillis Claimed By Death In Dillon

Enos Fay Gillies a well known Dillon resident died at home on South Atlantic street after a brief heart illness. Born September 14 1902 at Twin Bridges he lived there then married Ann Lasich and moved from Butte to Dillon last year. Survived by widow three year old daughter parents Chester and Lila Gillies twins, siblings Mrs Tom Tagart Margaret Gillies W O Olsen and Mrs A W Bridges an aunt. Funeral held Monday afternoon.

Valley hit by one of the region's worst storms

A devastating storm pounded the valley last Monday, sweeping through Madison and Gallatin counties with hail and heavy rain. J. J. Monroe reported 1.18 inches of rain in 24 hours, the largest in 12 to 14 years. Roads washed out, culverts failed, and basements flooded as county crews worked to reopen Twin Bridges and Big Hole roads by Tuesday noon. A lightning strike hit a chimney in Millpoint but caused little damage. the event echoed a similar storm four years ago that affected the southern valley.
