Dillon Fourth of July Celebrations Light Up Fair Grounds

Dillon holds a grand Fourth of July with balloon ascension and parachute leap, a large ball game attracting about 2,500, and three racing events. Wrestling between Jerry McCarthy and Will Earne drew praise before Earne was injured. A late evening dance at the Dillon theatre capped a well managed celebration. Winners included Walter Dearborn and Hazel Maurer in youth events, and Jay Tallent notable in horse races at the fair grounds. Independents beat Butte in the ball game.

Local Contractors Weigh Bids for New Depot Project

Oregon Short Line officials touring Dillon report minimal flood damage and say trains run on schedule. They invite local contractors to bid on a complete depot including plumbing heating and utilities with free material transportation and worker transit, requiring a $100 bid bond and $10,000 performance bond.

New Dillon Block For Bell Telephone Offices To Rise

Plans have been made by B F White to build a two story brick business block at the corner of Montana and Glendale streets in Dillon. The 50 by 115 foot building includes three streetfront store rooms on the first floor and the Rocky Mountain Bell Telephone Company offices, with twenty six rooms on the second floor. The block will be steam heated with white granite brick fronts and Columbus sandstone trim.

William J. Bryan secured the Democratic nomination this morning with the ballot count revealed around 3 am. The running mate was not announced and will be named during today’s session.

Assessed Valuation by School Districts in the County

County Assessor Phil Anderegg releases a first ever compiled list of property assessed values by school districts. The document aids boards in setting future levies and includes numerous district figures such as 53 983, 55 117, 46, 87 788, 115 480, and 217 110 among others, totaling varied property values for the coming year.

Will of George W. Perkins Probated in Dillon

The late George W. Perkins of Pasadena died leaving a ranch south of Dillon. His will sets aside income to pay taxes and mortgage interest, then ten years trust for five children with half the income to Estella Perkins Kelly of Butte, and equal shares to the other four. After ten years the ranch value is to be divided among all five heirs with Estella receiving half. Administrators Hugh L. McCaleb and George Banks named.

Beaverhead County Fair Race Program Set for September

Interest centers on the Beaverhead county fair to be held September 9 to 11. George R. Featherly and S. S. Carruthers lead efforts to ensure a successful first meeting with a premium list nearing completion. Race events include pace and trot programs, running races, cowboys, and a bucking contest, amid numerous stock exhibitions and about 400 premiums plus 26 special premiums.

Four Drown In Ferry Accident On Big Hole River

Relatives witnessed the disaster four miles south of Melrose as Baptiste Prezenti and three others, including his ten year old son John, were crossing the river in a ferry attached to a wire cable when the rope broke. The boat capsized and all four drowned around 8 30 PM. The body search continued for days with no success.

Directors Old A Meeting The Sugar Beet Outlook in Beaverhead Valley

The Sugar Beet Association board met at Hazel Baker court house and decided to discharge expert George Austin on July 15 due to funding difficulties. Directors W A Jones J B Pend Dexter Theodore Nelson G R Featherly I F Hunsaker will oversee the valley’s beet fields and inspect crops near Billings Idaho and Utah as yields are reported to be high.

Foley Wins Seventh Round Knockout in Dillon Fight

The 20 round bout at the Dillon theatre ended in the seventh when Foley defeated Sullivan. Both boxers conducted themselves well with no bloodshed and no foul play noted. The prelim Emmons versus McIntosh lasted six rounds with honors even, Emmons bleeding from a nose sustained during sparring.

Run-away accident ends in animal's death and citizen injured

G T Paul prominent citizen narrowly escaped death in a Sunday run-away on Pacific street. He was thrown from a buggy when the frightened colt struck a ditch, injuring him. The horse died after hitting a fence post. The Concord coaches will be used part of the canyon route for now, with road work delaying full service for ten days to two weeks. Two citizenship applications were filed: Edward McFarlane and Henry Gustave Peterson.
