Lightning Kills Two Horses on Local Ranch
Two horses owned by Claude Brown and Muggs McGrath were killed by a bolt of lightning at noon while no pasture remained for the animals on the Albert Mikkelson ranch. Two other horses were stunned but recovered. A second bolt shattered a large cottonwood at Shady Noak camp grounds nearby, leaving the tree in fragments. Residences across town reported rattled windows and a sulfuric smell in the air, though no other damage occurred.
