Miles City Montana plans two large irrigation developments Tongue river and Buffalo Rapids near Miles City start around July 24. Combined cost exceeds 1 million dollars and will irrigate thousands of acres once completed.
Anaconda hammered Dillon pitchers for 17 runs on 16 hits while Dillon tallied 6 on 10 hits as four Dillon hurlers were used. East Helena swept a weekend doubleheader at the fairgrounds, winning 3-1 and 8-1 as Butch McDonald belted a home run in his Dillon debut to claim the straw hat prize.
Preliminary steps toward building a new Dil lon Lodge No. 1554 B P O E lodge home moved forward as trustees were authorized to buy a site. A committee led by E W Bond reported on multiple locations and the purchase received unanimous support. Loyal Knight Frank Lasick presented past exalted ruler’s ring to Matt Kau on behalf of the lodge.
Local Forest Service workers handed out replicas of James Montgomery Flagg's Your Forest Your Fault Your Loss in Dillon public spaces. The artwork, accepted by President Roosevelt on June 10, stresses fire prevention as the nation’s forests recover from past damage and urges public awareness of careless fire-starts.
Edwin E Joy a Dillon resident since 1920 died Monday night at Barrett hospital after a serious operation. Funeral services are set for 2 30 PM Thursday from Brundage chapel with Rev Father F X Lechner of St Rose church presiding. Survived by wife mother Mrs B F Joy sister Mrs Andrew Dornburger and brothers Lester Chester and Ire Joy all of Marshalltown Iowa. He worked as a butcher and cook in Dillon area and was affiliated with the Modern Woodmen of America.
Dr. Robert E. Albright professor of social studies at the Normal college speaks at the University of Utah Summer Conference on National and International Affairs in Salt Lake City from June 28 to July 1. His principal address is The Supreme Court and the Constitution, with discussions on Economic Barriers and Propaganda.
Old Man Weather brought a swing in Beaverhead county with a 92 degree high on Tuesday, marking a new heat record for the summer after a cool spell. Frost later in the week touched Dillon area gardens while 2.17 inches of rain that month aided crops.
City Engineer Forrest Bayerd says the storage building walls and roof will be in place by July 15 and completion expected in August. A crew of six bricklayers and stone masons has worked for weeks on the one story structure costing 18034 dollars to house city graders trucks and equipment.
County officials report rapid re registration under a new state law. Albert S. Baker says 518 voters already re registered and about 3600 more are expected before the July primary. All voters must re register at least 45 days before election day, with deputies named in each precinct to aid the process.
Montana Congressman Jerry J O Connell secures 1275 in Interior budget to restore Big Hole battlefield grounds. He seeks 2550 more for custodian, admin costs, water and sanitation systems, signs and equipment as development plans await Senate approval and a custodian appointment.
The Cemetery project committee of the Business and Professional Women's club reports ample irrigation water for Mountain View cemetery. A reservoir is completed, a new water share added in Canyon ditch, and repairs to the cemetery ditch reduce losses. Donations are sought to fund pump and pipe installations, with Wells filed at State Bank and Trust and First National Bank. John Anderson of the Big Hole basin was in town Wednesday.
Arrangements are completed for the Old Timers' picnic to be held Sunday July 11 in Wisdom under the Big Hole Road association. All old time residents of the Big Hole are invited as guests of honor with no personal invitations issued.
