Talks on thrift by P. T. A. inspire parents and teachers

The January 21 meeting in the kindergarten rooms featured a sixth grade girls group, a vocal solo by Dorothy Langdorf, and a talk on thrift by Mr. Light from Montana State Normal College. He urged thrift as foundation of efficiency and outlined methods to teach saving to children.

Income Tax in a Nutshell for Individuals and Couples

Filing required for single earners with net income 1500 or more or gross 5000 or more and for married couples with net income 3500 or more or gross 5000 or more. Deadline March 15, 1980. Pay 0.5 percent on the first 4000 over exemptions, 2 percent on the next 4000, 4 percent on the remainder, plus a surtax above 10000.

Death of B R Stevenson Wisdom Pioneer and Land Commissioner

B R Stevenson a Wisdom resident and former United States land commissioner died Thursday in a Butte hospital after a fall caused a pelvis fracture. Born December 27, 1861 in Boston he moved west and became an early Big Hole Basin settler. He is survived by his widow and son Robert, with burial planned in Salt Lake City.

The Fortnightly dancing club will host its second dance of the new series on Wednesday evening February 5 at St. James guild hall.

Federal Forest Road Funds Allocated

The Treasury allocated 4.5 million dollars in federal forest highway funds for 1931 for roads within and around national forests. Hyde, Secretary of Agriculture, approved the apportionment, with plans to use the funds for state and territorial projects starting July 1. Representatives will plan construction for the next fiscal year.

Independent teams mix in good weekly series

Dillon basketball fans saw Eleils and Brundage Hi-Powers impress in a weekend slate. Eleils routed Lima All Stars 55 to 18 at the Normal College gym with Contway scoring 21 and Hignight 18 as Breeden steered the attack. Brundage beat Beavers 20 to 16 in a fast, tight game before Midwest s Butte edged Hi-Powers in overtime Tuesday night.

Elks Set Large Class 10 Initiation in Dillon

Dillon Lodge No. 1554 Elks plans a big initiation Saturday evening February 15 with about 50 candidates. The ceremony will involve Butte and other Montana lodges plus Idaho Falls inviting guests. A special Exalted Ruler Terry Browning meeting on February 4 will finalize details. A dance for Elks and ladies will follow later.

Louis Stahl, a veteran of Dillon, sold his interests in the City Baking Company to his son-in-law Louis Schmittroth, a popular young man in the city, in a deal concluded last week.

Selway Re-elected Woolgrower Official in Montana Meet

The Hon. E. O. Selway of Beaverhead county was re-elected first vice president of the Montana Woolgrowers Association at its annual meeting in Helena. Charles H. Williams of Deer Lodge was re-elected president, a post he has held for twenty four terms. Beaverhead and Madison county sheepmen attended, including Howard Morse and W. G. Gilbert.

Memorial ritual adopted by Beaverhead Post of the American Legion

Beaverhead Post of the American Legion held a regular monthly meeting at the Andrus grill with a dinner and smoker. Veterans discussed the hospitalization program and Legion plans, reviewed last year's activities, and adopted a Memorial day ritual with burial codes for ex servicemen in Mountain View cemetery subject to city cemetery committee action.

Trevose Gun Club shoot honors Renfro and Schultz

Irank Trech of Portland won the second day’s Trevose Gun Club shoot with a perfect 50. N. B. Pillot of Houston and KE. W. Renfro of Dell tied for second at 49 as Eugene Springer of Wildwood and Otto Schultz of Sheridan followed. Steve M. Crothers of Philadelphia led with 99 of 100 in the 100 blue rock event, with Renfrew and Springer close behind at 96.

Seventeen Students Enter Beaverhead County High School

A class of eighteen graduates had diplomas at a Thursday commencement. Seventeen plan to enroll at Beaverhead County High School for the spring term. The new freshmen include Anna Anderson Josephine Arrigoni Jack Barrett Clyde Brown Alma Bay Della May Banning Marguerite Collins Hugh Clarke Helen Erwin Jack Gilbert Doris Hull Melbourne Jackson Arthur Klebba Clarence OBrien Kathryn Kajin Lucille Stephens Frank Nay and Florence Pedroiti. Jack Barrett is not entering high school now.

Rotary members debate better local radio reception

Dillon Rotarians heard Charles Oberem and Dr. M A Walker discuss reducing interference and improving reception. Oberem traced radio evolution and urged cooperation from the light company. Walker explained noise types and fixes, noting regenerative sets and station power as factors.
