Matron of Orphan Home Pearl Redfern Dies in Whitehall
Pearl McGee Redfern longtime matron at Twin Bridges state orphan’s home died Wednesday January 11 after pneumonia. A Whitehall native, she was visited in the city and will be interred in Whitehall. Mrs Dan Mooney’s sister-in-law, funeral plans underway. Jack Gilbert elected vice director of the Brotherhood of St Andrew at St James guild hall. The St James parish held its annual meeting at the guild hall on Wednesday evening with many communicants present. Rev Thomas Ashworth of St Johns Butte gave an inspirational address and reports from church departments were read by several parish members. Lee Doty long time resident of the city died after a short illness. Born in Benson County North Dakota he came to Montana as a child and grew up in the eastern part of the state. He worked for several ranches including Cornell Poindexter Orr and was connected with cow boy circles featuring Charley Russell. A cousin George Wilson resides in North Dakota.

Annual Ice Harvest Starts Tomorrow at Patterson Ranch
Patterson begins his annual ice harvest from his ranch west of the city with two large ice houses able to store over 5 000 cakes. Additional ice is kept at the west side house and wagon loads are sent to private ice houses for ranchmen in the valley. The cold weather has frozen the pond deep enough to begin the work.

Fat lamb exhibit draws wide local interest in county
Sheepmen from many parts of the county showed strong interest in a fat lamb exhibit held last Saturday on Idaho street. Thirty lambs, fed since November 1, were displayed with feeding charts. Edward Bay and George Shaffner tracked costs and gains, with Shaffner lambs rising from 62 to about 85.7 pounds in 30 days pasture and 74 days feeding, while Bay lambs grew from 78 to 97.2 pounds in 42 days with a 3.8 cent per pound gain. The exhibit, led by Bernard Williams, aimed to encourage local feeding over shipping out, and the lambs were later shipped to Great Falls for the Montana Woolgrowers convention and auction.
