Death Claims Mrs. Vica W. Carrigan in Dillon

Mrs. Vica W. Carrigan died Friday evening at her South Washington home after a lingering illness. Born in Elgin Illinois January 6, 186? in Beaverhead county since 1871, she helped manage Owen Carrigan estate after his 1901 death. Survived by her son Victor two grandchildren and an aunt in California. Funeral Monday at St James Episcopal with Rev H W Tragitt. burial Mountain View cemetery.

Beaverhead High Alumni Plan Feb 8 Dance

Beaverhead County High School alumni association met at City Hall and planned a February 8 dance in the city hall auditorium. Proceeds will clear current indebtedness with prizes for best dancers including a grand coal prize. President Ambrose Henneberry calls the group the city’s largest club and an active social force.

Elks Set February 15 Initiation for Large Dillon Class

Terry Browning Exalted Ruler of Dillon Lodge 1554 BPOE left for Butte to confer with James H. Hackett Anaconda district deputy about initiation ceremonies on February 15 for a large candidate class. Many membership petitions have been filed as the drive continues toward January 28 with Butte lodge expected to conduct the event drawing attendees from surrounding towns.

Bulldogs Triumph as Normal, Beavers Fall in Saturday Games

Normal Bulldogs overwhelmed Havre 30 to 12 in the second half, led by Pasley and Persha as H. Jenkins and Stack struggled for Havre. Butte High defeated Dillon 44 to 16, with Reynolds and Papich sparking the visitors and Kerr leading Dillon. Cardwell girls beat Beaverettes 80 to 24 in the preliminary.

Fire damages Hazel Baker building garage on Idaho street

A Monday noon fire in the garage at the rear of the Hazel Baker building on Idaho Street damaged basement timbers and burned a floor hole. Overheated smoke stack likely caused it. Fire crews used a chemical engine to control the blaze. Sherman Hughes’s Buick was moved to prevent damage. Charles Niblack supplied warm gloves for the firefighters during the cold weather.

Funeral Held For Twin Bridges Youth Melvin Gustin

Funeral services for Melvin Gustin, a Twin Bridges high school senior, were conducted last Sunday at Twin Bridges. He died in a Thursday automobile accident near Dillon when the car he was driving left the road and overturned, pinning him beneath.

The Dillon Country club expects its greatest year since founding after a large stockholders meeting. Dr. W H Stephan and H M Brundage were elected to three year terms on the board, dues rise from 10 to 20 for active members, auxiliary and juvenile dues unchanged, inactive members may pay 10 with no course access, a professional hire was approved, an entertainment committee formed, and plans to improve the course were outlined amid strong enthusiasm for 1930.

Clifton Cope Sentenced at Square Butte on Gasoline Charge

Sheriff Orr received a letter from rancher L. C. Hanson stating Clifton Cope, arrested locally on a gasoline theft charge and released for insufficient evidence, is now serving a 20 day sentence at Square Butte on the same charge. Mrs. Etta Metzel of Alder visited the city Thursday.
