Tragic Drowning of Ayers Baby at Divide Ranch

The 10 month old son of Mr and Mrs Roy Ayers of Divide died after suffocating in a water trough at the family ranch. Dr H J McDonald attended but could not revive him. The funeral was held in Dillon with interment at Mountain View cemetery.

Prof Clarke To Lecture In February At Normal College

Prof W J Clarke renowned electrician will give an entertainment lecture February 29 at the Normal College entertainment course after a long break. The event promises vivid demonstrations of recent inventions and is billed as a unique city treat. Drummy cousin of W F Drummy, Sam Drummy, a longtime Omaha detective, was killed in South Omaha while attempting an arrest. He had served on the Omaha police force for over twenty years. Walter Shoup F G Havemann J H Padgham Roy Hernder and Dr H F Kimball of Salmon Idaho visited Dillon last Sunday and most joined the Royal Masons there except Dr Kimball.

Dillon Couple Weds in Cottage Grove

Miss Carrie Etta Oliver and Will W. Simpson were united in marriage last Wednesday at the Oliver home near Dillon with about fifty relatives and friends present. Rev A B Martin officiated assisted by violin music from Karl Riedelsberger. The couple will reside at the Brundage residence after March 15.

Court closes April special term and Dillon cases heard

A Dillon district court adjourned a special term and opened a regular February session with Judge Lew L. Callaway presiding. Several cases were disposed of by dismissal or settlement while others advanced. a divorce decree granted in Clements v Clements and a $100 fine imposed on Joseph Butler for gambling. The final receiver report in Sheldon v Dillon Electric Light & Power Co. was approved. Continued on Page Eight.

Death of Dillon resident David Hood, Civil War veteran

David Tally Hood, born November 25 1833 in Virginia, died suddenly of valvular heart disease while walking with M A Elliott near Dillon Montana. Hood enlisted in the Union Army in 1863 and lived in Dillon since 1894. He leaves a widow and twelve children with several grandchildren. Funeral arrangements and Mountain View cemetery interment pending.

Convention of mine owners meets in Helena with 250 attendees

The Montana mine owners convention opened in Helena on February 17 with more than 250 mining men present. M. L. Hewitt presided, 107 members paid a $25 initiation, and officers were elected including President M. L. Hewitt and vice presidents for each county such as G. B. Conway for Beaverhead.

Unique dorm party dazzles with red heart decor

Friday evening at the dormitory six hostesses Miss Ralston Miss Moran Miss Goodrich Miss Grace Johnson Miss Rossiter and Miss Schmidt held a highly praised party chaperoned by Dean Hopper. The rooms gleamed with red heart motifs, chandeliers draped in heart festoons, yellow daffodils and red carnations.

Burglary Charge Against F H Clark Arrested by Chief Stone

F H Clark was arrested by Chief Stone on burglary charges after allegedly breaking into Mrs Arlie A Fromans storeroom and stealing twenty No 4 wolf traps. He allegedly sold the traps via an intermediary to Harrisons second hand store. Clark fled during arrest but was captured and arraigned before Justice Hirschman, pleading not guilty with a $500 bail set.

Beaverhead County Bowling Contest Nears 90 Days

The 90 day bowling contest for a $50 gold medal and the county championship continues at Ed Farnsworths. Top rollers include Thomas Scott 4743 M E Barry 4738 O M Best 4737 and Frank Knotts 4558. Paul Stahl recently bowled the best five games ever at the Dillon alleys totaling 981 an average 196.2. The St Rose Guild will meet at Mrs S E Sherman’s home Thursday afternoon February 25.
