Pioneering Beaverhead Pioneer Arthur Sullivan Dies

Arthur Sullivan known as Uncle Arthur of Dillon and Beaverhead County died after weeks of illness. He came to Bannack in 1863, later ranched north of Dillon, supported the Beaverhead fair, and moved to Dillon in 1882. Born June 3 1822 in Guilford NC, he left a large family including Harvey, Anna Hart, Sarah Blivens, and Mary Tilton. Funeral held at Masonic Temple with a large crowd.

Scenic theatre in Dillon offers ten cents entertainment

The Dillon venue, newly established, continues to give two bits of fun for ten cents. A Tuesday program change was delayed because films were not sent from Butte until Wednesday. Management assures this will not recur.

Montana chicken ranch boasts prize birds and large hatchings

Chris Snyder opens a Montana chicken ranch at the old fairgrounds north of Dillon. J R Scott leads operations with top blooded birds from Buff Orpingtons to White Leghorns. Incubation capacity grows to 2,000 eggs, with plans for a 240 foot breeding house and new improvements. The goal is 3,000-plus hatched chicks this year and strong egg production.

Favorable Report on Senator Dixon's Land Bill

Senator Joseph Dixon of Montana secured a favorable report for a bill allowing homestead entries in Montana and Oregon up to 480 acres per entry on non irrigable and non timbered lands. Entry requires cultivation of one fourth of the land and $1.25 per acre in permanent improvements. House action likely trims to 320 acres. Western support exists. eastern opposition likely keeps reductions.

Arbor Day Proclamation Issued By Gov Toole

Dillonites suffer wreck told in Bishop letter

John F. Bishop reports a February 4 train wreck 50 miles east of Dillon while en route to California. He and Mrs. Bishop, and Senator J. P. Murray and wife, escaped with minor injuries as the 40 mph derailment occurred where decayed ties split the track. The letter notes others are well and talks of California winter plans and upcoming battleship visit.

Wheat and oat yields cited for Montana last year

L P Benedict of the bureau reports Montana average wheat yield about forty bushels per acre and oats around sixty bushels. He notes the gains cover irrigated and dry farming, comparing with North Dakota where wheat averages twelve to fifteen bushels. He cites visits to every state section to support the figures.

Bryan Leads Party to Defeat Defended in House Row

In Washington on February 12 representative Hamill of New Jersey was chosen to admonish colleague Leake for accusing William J. Bryan of crucifying democracy on socialism. Leake defended his stance, insisting Bryan would again lead the party to defeat as certain as if votes were counted.
