In January extreme cold formed a thick ice jam on Sheep Creek flooding the flat from the canyon mouth and threatening the state road near the city. After February warmups there is hope the ice menace to highway crews has lessened.

Jack Gilbert son of Mr and Mrs J H Gilbert of this city captained his University of Chicago handball team which defeated Notre Dame in what may be the only intercollegiate handball series. A Dillon Parent-Teacher charity ball at city hall auditorium Saturday night drew a large crowd and raised a satisfactory sum for medical care of needy children. The event featured old-fashioned dances, a prize waltz won by Smokey Bill Dungan and Mrs. Weaver, and specialty dances by Merle Schmittroth with Claudia Faust, with the Bachelor Club orchestra providing music. Hamburgers and coffee were served by association members.
