Mrs Margaret Roode Ross Roode a Dillon area resident died Thursday February 10 after a lingering illness at her mother's home in Argenta She was born in Nova Scotia in 1885 and lived much of her life in Beaverhead County teaching and serving as county superintendent of schools Surviving are her mother sister and two brothers Funeral services were held Sunday at Brundage chapel with interment in Mountain View cemetery The annual show at Hughes and McCaleb's drew strong advance mail orders for seats from out of town patrons after the event was announced

Field representatives from Jeremiah Williams Halewell Jones and Donald Silberman and Son and Koshland report about 1 000 000 pounds of wool contracted at around 385 cents a pound. Buyers aim for top quality fleece as Montana's Beaverhead county clip nears half of the 1927 total with a bright outlook from the newly formed Southern Montana Wool Growers association covering Beaverhead Madison and Silver Bow counties.

Highway Funds Set For Beaverhead County Road Plan

Beav erhead County will receive 60000 of the 157000 apportioned to the ninth district for this year for a new six to eight mile road south from Brown's bridge. The project will use crushed rock or gravel and be federally aided in a 57 43 split. P G Poore will visit Dillon February 23 with a route man to survey right of way and begin spring surveys.

Sheepherder Lugs Revolver Threats and Seeks Medical Custody

Ben Smith a mentally unsettled sheep herder with a Luger pistol frightened Gilbert, Gilbert and McFadden staff, then surrendered to Sheriff Orr under County Attorney Gilbert. He claimed a fancied illness and demanded protection before being taken to court for a sanity evaluation. earlier he threatened to shoot Burfiend at a drug store. He remained at jail door awaiting release for two days.

Fred Stone Former Dillonite Police Chief Dies

Word reached Dillon of the Jan 24 death in Georgia of Fred Stone a well known former resident and longtime chief of police here His remains go to Michigan for burial He gained prominence as a special officer at Armstead during the Gilmore Pittsburg railroad construction He is survived by his wife a daughter and a son.

Beaverhead County ranches increasingly keep hogs as pork prices rise. A carload of fat hogs was shipped to Spokane by Chris Bay and George Stinson, with more headed for market.
