Beaverhead Sportsmen Back Federal Fish Hatchery Plan
Saturday night the Beaverhead Sportsmen’s Association unanimously endorsed building a federal fish hatchery in Beaverhead County. Speakers including Frank Hazelbaker and Jennings Mayland urged support, noting local streams and the Dillon Chamber of Commerce pledge. a committee led by Pete Westergard will seek approval and funding from southwestern Montana sportsmen.

Ice Carnival Delights Dillon Crowd At City Rink
Scores of Dillon residents attended the first municipal ice carnival held Sunday at the city rink. Nearly 400 watched as boys and girls competed in 220 and 440 yard events, with Carl Neufelder of Butte giving a standout skating exhibition. Winners included J Wiant, E Smith, Tom Ross in boys under 11. Bill Curry, Greg Olson, Ed Janney in under 13. Arson Sinclair, Dale Dart, Dale Tash in under 14. Ray Ames, Tom Ames in men’s free for all. Janet Curry, Margaret Death, Patricia Curry in girls under 11. Lois Hazelbaker, Phyllis Davis, Evelyn Davis in girls under 15. Lois Hagelbaker, M Ames in girls free for all. and Tom Ames, H Veltkamp in men’s backward race. Ice was in good condition after a Friday night flood. Plans for a bigger carnival next year were announced by the organizing committee.

Samuel Patterson Pioneer of Dillon Dies at 76
Samuel S Patterson a Dillon resident for 53 years died Sunday at a Butte hospital at age 76 after a long career in Dillon. Born April 2 1862 in Williamsburg Pa he traveled west to Hayes City Kansas then Dillon arriving in 1886. He ran the Anangst building trade worked for R C Halliday and bought the Halliday liquor business in 1896 later partnered in Dillon Bottling Works. He left ranch property near Jackson and a home west of the city. He is survived by relatives including an adopted son Spencer Patterson Helena a sister Miss Anna A Patterson Dillon a stepdaughter Edna Wheat Dillon and others. Funeral is Wednesday at 2 pm Brundage chapel with interment Mountain View cemetery. Local stores closed 2 to 3 pm during the service.
