Beaverhead County approves bids and reorganizes staff

Beaverhead County Commissioners met December 8 1919 approving last session minutes and rejecting declining bids for county poor farm groceries. They deferred county physician bids to January 5 1920 and opened road and school filings. A new land classification appointee and road changes were ordered with fencing costs and deed provisions. The payroll of December 2693 64 was approved with warrants to various vendors. A separate note mentions Ben Lugara a Mexican offender rejoicing about a state penitentiary sentence.

Dillon Soldier Reunites With Ghost of War After Soissons

In 1918 on the western front a Dillon man met a fellow Dillon soldier twice on stretchers. Believed dead, the friend later reappeared at home in Dillon revealing he had been wounded in the arm and gas exposure, then later listed as killed, before returning to his dry land farm.

Snowbound roads opened by Fordson tractors in Beaverhead

A Fordson from Beaverhead Motor Co. bucked deep drifts to clear and open roads that were previously blocked by snow. Ranchers off main highways faced getting snowbound as winds piled up large drifts while old horse ploughs were replaced by the coughing tractor.

Blizzard Follows Brief Chinook Wind in Montana

A brief Chinook wind on Wednesday gave way to a fierce blizzard with strong winds and temperatures from 10 to 12 below zero. Snow drifts outside the city impede auto travel. Cold weather is forecast through the 17th amid ongoing record lows and storms in Montana since before Thanksgiving.

Reduced Oregon Short Line passenger service hits Dillon

In line with a national fuel saving ruling trains 30 and 31 on the Oregon Short Line were pulled midnight last Monday leaving Dillon with one train each way every twenty four hours. The northbound arrives 2 35 a m and the southbound from Butte at 9 p m. All mail now arrives on two trains and is processed at once, boosting holiday mail flow and burying the post office under an avalanche of mail.

Dillon Forms Fuel Board To Avert Coal Shortage

A Dillon municipal board of fuel administrators is organized with Frank A. Hazelbaker as chairman to cooperate with the Oregon Short Line in distributing coal. They ban dances, plan a municipal wood yard, and set inspections for coal grants while preparing drastic measures if conditions worsen.

Tuberculosis Fight Expands Facilities Nationwide

The National Tuberculosis Association reports a fourfold rise in facilities over fourteen years, with 600 sanatoria housing about 50 000 beds and 500 clinics today. Open air schools grew to over 1000 by 1915 and Red Cross Christmas seals sales rose to 650 million this year, funding continued efforts despite 150 000 deaths and 1.2 million cases last year.

Pupils of L A Gregory will give an orchestral concert Tuesday evening December 16 at 8 30 at the training school auditorium. Man Dies From Exposure Near Brenner’s Cabin

Coroner Brundage was notified this morning that a man died last night in a cabin near Brenner’s from exposure. Roads are impassable and the coroner cannot reach Horse Prairie for several days. The man’s identity is not known.

James Murray Dies in Shoshone Idaho

Jim Murray longtime Dillon and Beaverhead county official dies of pneumonia in his McCloud hotel room in Shoshone Idaho. He leaves wife Montana and son Maurice with services set for Saturday at St James Episcopal church in Dillon.
