Paul Anderson city school superintendent told Rotary members that democracy needs an educated electorate free to examine both sides of social and political matters. He defined controversial issues as those on which intelligent, honest people disagree and listed topics like unemployment and national defense. He urged hearing both sides to avoid indoctrination and prepare youth for change.

Harry Whiting Dies at Gleed Ranch
Harry Whiting 41 died suddenly Monday morning while feeding sheep at the Bill Gleed ranch near Dell after breakfast. A native of Montana he spent much of his life in Beaverhead county. Survived by mother and siblings in Missoula, he was a cousin of Bill Gleed. Body shipped to Missoula for funeral and interment.

Tax Delinquents in Beaverhead May Lose Property
About 600 Beaverhead county taxpayers will receive notices that real estate taxes up to 1933 are delinquent and subject to tax deed. Letters from County Clerk Albert S. Baker inform owners that if taxes remain unpaid, a tax deed will be sought on January 30 after a December 2 deadline.

Memorial for Honored Dead Held by Elks
Dillon Lodge No 1554 BPOE joined hundreds of Elk lodges nationwide last Sunday at the training school auditorium for a memorial service honoring departed members. The program featured a Chopin funeral march, an Elks quartet, memorial address by Theo F McFadden, and a roll call of departed brothers. The Future Farmers of America hosted an annual father son banquet Friday attended by 75 people. The event featured opening ceremonies, FFA officers, talks by Conrad Orr Bernard Williams and A W Johnson, musical numbers by Beaverhead Rangers, and remarks by D L Johnson. A large turnout filled the Eastern Star card party at the Masonic hall with 22 pinochle tables 11 bridge tables and four chinker-check tables. Prizes went to Frank Davis high and Joe Mulky low in pinochle. Mrs D A Galt high and Mrs Margaret Hollensteiner low in bridge. Mae Obenland high and Elza Smith low in chinker-check. A vocal duet followed by piano by A I Cashmore concluded the evening with refreshments served and praise from committee members.

The Dolphins of State Normal college staged a water pageant titled The Wedding drawing large Friday and Saturday night audiences. Dillon Couple Wed in Methodist Parsonage
John Francis Gibbons and Miss Marie Knox were married at the Methodist parsonage on November 26 by Rev. J. A. Meeke. The bride is the daughter of William and Mrs. Knox of Dell and the groom is the son of Martin and Mrs. Gibbons of Dillon. Both are Beaverhead County High School graduates and will reside in Dillon.

Beaverhead county leads Montana in total livestock value for 1938 with 50 367 cattle valued at 1 361 985 and 156 110 sheep valued at 724 197. The county also holds first in number of horses at 7 447. Two Pioneer Residents of County Dead
Two long time Beaverhead county residents died recently. Stanley M. Starr of Dillon and Moise Campeau, a former Dillon rancher, succumbed to illnesses after long years in the area. Funeral services for Starr and Campeau were held at the Brundage chapel with Rev. F X Lechner officiating for Campeau.
