Mrs Marguerite Ann Graeter longtime Beaverhead pioneer matron died after an October burn accident. Born Staten Island 1854 she trekked west as a child and helped found Argenta later living there. Survived by son Warren Graeter Deer Lodge and other relatives. funeral in Dillon after services in Deer Lodge.
The Dillon Lodge of Odd Fellows elected officers led by Lester Bourquin as noble grand F C McFadden as vice grand James Leach as secretary and A E Adams as treasurer The officers and appointive officers will be installed at the first meeting in January.
All members of the Dillon fire department and Boy Scouts are asked to assemble at city hall Thursday evening from 7 to 9 to repair the many toys collected by the Scouts last Saturday. The sponsors thank residents for generous toy donations aiding children in need this Christmas.
The sixteenth district basketball tournament was scheduled at Twin Bridges after coaches met there. Under the Mining district rotation Dillon could host soon. The winner advances to Bozeman on March 11 en route to the Class B state final in Bozeman with Great Falls champ awaiting the Class A winner.
The Girls' Instrumental sextette from the high school will travel to Melrose next Tuesday evening to perform a program sponsored by the Woman's club. The event at Huber hall will feature readings by Betty Hall of Dillon, a one act play, numbers by a men's chorus and dancing. Sextette members include Leone Cashmore Betty Hall violin Katherine Barry viola Lulu Belle Gilman cello Dorothy Hildreth bass Edith Orr piano director L A Gregory. Proceeds go to Christmas seal and relief work.
Sop ha's Winners of Hoop Tourney freshmen take first, defeating faculty 382 to 16. Thompson hits late long shot to beat seniors 25 24 for freshmen third place. Seniors beat sophomore B 80 19 to close day. faculty finish second.
Dillon starts its annual fundraising drive for the Boy Scouts with ten two man teams to canvass the city. About 40 business and professional leaders attended Friday’s city hall meeting to plan the campaign, which aims to support Scouting across the area. The Silver Bow council, headquartered in Butte, oversees Anaconda Deer Lodge and Dillon with an annual budget of 7000 dollars, with Butte contributing 5500 dollars and Anaconda, Deer Lodge, and Dillon each providing funds.
The Tribune Publishing company won a two year county printing contract by a two to one vote. Tribune undercuts rivals Dillon Examiner and Lima Ledger, and the board will publish monthly proceedings in the Tribune starting next year. Taxpayer savings and prompt service cited. other county board appointments noted during the session.
A large community collection of damaged toys was gathered by Boy Scouts at the firemen’s headquarters in Dillon’s city hall last Saturday. The efforts, aided by eleven Beaverhead County High School students and county chair Mrs. W. W. Hawkins, will fund Christmas seals and support health campaigns. Speakers Margaret Winter and Frank Tyre explained national, state, and county use of the funds, while Eddie Exum sang two solos.
At the Dillon Rotary club meeting James Kelly announced that three city Boy Scout troops will run the program next Monday. J C Wedum outlined plans to raise 500 dollars for scouting services this year and reviewed benefits of the movement. Eddie Exum sang two solos with Marian Wahl at the piano.
Dillon residents greeted a festively adorned business district Friday with evergreens on lamp posts. Floyd Vandegrift and Barry Caskin installed the trees. A Dillon Rotary Club committee plans to place a lighted depot lawn tree later this month.
A brief notice lists Charles Selway as the son of Mr and Mrs Roy Selway of a ranching family. The readable fragment confirms the child’s name and parental ties.
Ed Simons and Frank Hazelbaker, both of Dillon, performed in Hi Jinx the annual Missoula university musical comedy. Simons played Dean J J Miller in a skit while Hazelbaker led a German band. The show originated in 1906 to raise money for uniforms and evolved into a jazz revue.
Most rural county teachers gathered in Dillon for the annual institute which ended Tuesday. Sessions took place at the training school auditorium. Monday featured Miss Marguerite Hood of Helena on music and Miss Luella Stickney, county nurse, on health education in schools. Tuesday included Miss Regina Kenten of Helena speaking on art in schools.
Valentine Jacobs a well known resident of the southern end of the county passed away Tuesday evening in Los Angeles according to word received by relatives here. He was born in Lima January 14 1891 and lived in that section until a few years ago. Surviving relatives include his wife and daughter a sister Mrs George Whitworth of Dell and a brother in Minneapolis. The body will be brought to Lima for interment.
Edward Bourquin, 16, son of Mr and Mrs Charles Bourquin of this city, was wounded by a self inflicted gun discharge while returning from a hunting trip last Sunday. The .22 rifle muzzle pointed to his chest and bullet lodged near the shoulder blade after piercing the lung. He was found unconscious in a ditch near the Paul Stahl ranch and attended by medical help.
Biennial report from County Attorney T S Gilbert to the attorney general notes a state record in felony convictions with no acquittals across informations filed in the past two years. Bramer and Lathrop remain charged with illegal cattle butchering. Hunsaker may face an information for burglarizing the Monad pool hall. From 1928 to 1930, 41 informations yielded 85 convictions, four carried over, two dismissed, none acquitted.
Dillon mourns seven Elks and one former Montana State Normal student Helen Floto McCree whose death was reported in Chicago. Memorial services featured attorney John K. Claxton delivering the address, a full musical program, and a solemn ritual at the Odd Fellows hall with Exalted Ruler Leonard Innes presiding.
