Dillon cigar maker seizes Union Leader claim in Elkhorn district
Dan Burkholder and William Brandstater secured a two year lease and $2000 bond on the Union Leader claim. They report heavy development work and a 120 foot depth ore body assaying $28 per ton and four feet wide. A two foot silver gold ledge is being mined for shipment to the smelter. The ledge traces to a former owner and reputedly yielded fifty tons of brittle silver ore at $1000 per ton. County Commissioner McKnight aided the transaction.

Dr Swain reports first year college growth and state reach
Dr H H Swain president of the state normal college in Dillon submitted the annual report to the state board of education covering Dec 1 1905 to Dec 1 1906. Enrollment reached 273 with 77 percent from counties beyond Beaverhead, the highest since opening. Graduates total twenty three with five bachelor pedagogy four year, one four year science, seventeen three year. Dormitory operations ran without a deficit at 18 dollars monthly board and lodging. Local figures include J P Lossl and Sam Moore among visitors.

The widow of E L Kline led his funeral at his ranch after he died from being thrown from a bronco the previous Thursday. Interment was in Poindexter cemetery as locals witnessed a nontraditional service with the widow delivering prayers and pledging revival for the holy roller sect in Dillon.
