Haying season nears end in high valleys with few fields remaining. Ross Nay of Nay Bros says Grasshopper growers finished with a good season. Martin Jackson from the upper Big Hole reports a solid hay crop for himself and neighbors as he seeks feeder steers.
The Department of Agriculture reports higher beef prices likely within 18 months for feeders and range producers with an upward trend probable over 2 to 3 years. Breeding stock and cattle on feed are down, suggesting smaller market supplies and continued reductions in breeding stock. In the southwest, cattle supplies are lighter than a year ago as the 1926 calf crop was strong.
Richard Hathaway, noted Montana publisher, returns to the Big Hole basin to restart the Wisdom News after the 1925 fire destroyed the plant. He ran Wisdom for 15 years and will rejoin publishers and residents who urged his comeback, promising old school printing with personality.
Election day is November 2 and registration books close September 17 at 5 o clock. Voters must be registered to participate in state, congressional, and county races, plus a constitutional amendment and three referenda on taxes for crops, roads, schools, and repeal of prohibition. Do not delay. register now.
A trainload of lambs was shipped at the start of the week by T. J. Call and associates from Norris. The Norris region is noted for its splendid lambs and local pride shows in the quality produced. A Tribune reporter recalls a previous shipment to Valley Gardens ranch of 4,100 blackface lambs from Karl Elling, averaging 85 pounds.
Beaverhead chapter D A R held its twelfth annual picnic at the Anderson Bros ranch north of town. They draped the marker on the Anderson bridge to honor 3 000 mile island a Lewis and Clark milestone. About 100 attendees heard Laura Scott of Armstead speak on the expedition and Jean Bishop discuss local pioneer history.
A Hartwig theater program titled Greater Denmark drew a large crowd last Saturday, as onlookers noted the display cards in nearby shop windows. The item appears continued on page six.
Senator F A Hazelbaker will be the principal speaker at the Big Hole community and church picnic in Jackson on Saturday August 28. Tom J Davis of Butte will also address the crowd. The event starts at 1 PM with a Wisdom versus Jackson baseball game followed by sports and races for all ages. Ladies will serve free ice cream and coffee as basket lunches are shared. Residents of Beaverhead county are invited to attend on the Bristow road.
Commissioners for Water to Be Done Soon report progress on distributing Bedrock reservoir water after a severe Montana drought. The Labor Day weekend features a Modern Woodmen district picnic at Dillmont park with a special train from Butte and a $150 baseball purse, plus a three day rodeo with $2,500 in prizes at the fair grounds September 4 through 6, drawing riders from the northwest to Dillon.
Judge H. G. Rodgers and Court Stenographer Willis traveled Wednesday to Boulder to hold a district court session. An information was filed Tuesday charging Chris Adams of Lima with unlawful possession of intoxicants. James Prohosky and Rasmus Hanson filed reports this week as water commissioners for Horse Prairie Creek.
Fred Woodside becomes the first airplane owner in Beaverhead county as Dillon hosts the latest Waco design. The two passenger craft with an eight cylinder motor cruises at 90 mph and 13 miles per gallon, piloted by A. W. Stevenson from Troy to Dillon in two days. Exhibition flights are planned at Montana and Idaho county fairs and in Helena.
