Harness and Running Races Thrill Dillon Crowd at Thursday Meet

The Dillon race meet drew smaller crowds but delivered a thrilling program with three heats in each harness event and several running races. Winners included Binerella in the 2:25 pace, Twin Falls Boy in the 2:14 pace, Romer in the half mile, and Deacon in the three-eighths mile, with placegetters listed and times noted.

Dillon Flower Show Promises Favorite Varieties Display

Flower lovers in Dillon and surrounding country plan to exhibit their finest blossoms at the September 2 and 3 show in the Medlen block. Judges face a competitive atmosphere as residents display a wide range of flowers including dahlias gladiolias roses sweet peas asters nasturtiums cosmos pansies and poppies. The event marks Dillon's first organized local flower exhibit and has spurred widespread garden activity.

Beaverhead county high school welcomes Miss Violet M. Eastman to lead the English department as Mrs. Allie Keith McFadden resigns. Eastman, a Chicago University graduate, previously taught at Mullan Idaho and arrives amid plans for private student housing in town. Principal A. T. McFaddens Return From Wedding Trip to Settle in City

Mr and Mrs Theodore F McFadden returned last Friday morning from a two week motor trip through Yellowstone National Park and the Black Hills region of South Dakota. They will make their home in this city where Mr McFadden is junior partner in the law firm of Gilbert Gilbert and McFadden.

City Stores Close Friday Afternoon for Race Meet

All stores and business houses will close Friday from 1 to 5 PM to allow attendance at the state’s premier race meet this year. The event is billed as the best of its kind in the state.

Death Claims Man Seeking Work Here

William Jackson aged about 41 died at Barrett hospital after a brief illness last Thursday. A native of Oklahoma and former miner, he came to town seeking ranch work. Police found him intoxicated Saturday evening and treated him at the jail Sunday before his hospitalization. No inquest was held as death was from natural causes. Funeral at Brundage chapel Tuesday. burial in Mountain View cemetery. Relatives in Oklahoma were advised but did not respond.

County Undertakes Two Large Road Projects

County progresses on a state and federal highway from Browne's Bridge toward Butte with grading and surfacing to be finished this fall. Stephenson to Pilot Hughes Plane in New York to Spokane Derby

Pilot A W Stephenson of Montana Air Service will fly from Dillon to the Waco factory in Ohio for a new plane ordered by Emerson Hughes. He will return to Helena for exhibition flights at the state fair before racing in the National Air Derby from New York to Spokane with about 50 entrants expected to compete.

Dillon Boys Enter Stock Judging Contest at State Fair

Beaverhead County High School agriculture team Fredrick Crouse Raymond Johnson and Claude Howell will compete in the stock judging contest at the state fair opening in September under Prof D P Thurber. They will demonstrate Culling the Farm Flock with expenses funded by the state fair committee. Prizes include 20 for first and 15 for second in dairy cattle beef cattle sheep and swine.
