County commissioners adopted a tax levy that lowers total county taxes by about 10.9 percent despite a 14.9 percent drop in total taxable valuation. City levy remains unchanged. Real estate values fell sharply, lowering the overall tax base to 4.7 million dollars, guiding a reduced levy across four funds: general municipal admin 12.5 mills, streets and alleys 2.0 mills, library 1 mill, cemetery 0.5 mill.

Albert Conrad Polish, son of Mr. and Mrs. Matt Polish of Reichle, died in Mare Island Navy Hospital California. General peritonitis was the cause after a nationwide motorcycle trip with a navy companion. He graduated from the local high school two years ago and is survived by parents and several siblings. Body to be returned here for interment.

Pair sentenced on bad check charge in Dillon case
Allie Christensen and Monte Mera two youths from Utah were arrested at Armstead last Tuesday night by Deputy Jesse Brown and were returned to Dillon by Undersheriff James McCollum. They pleaded guilty in Judge Stahl's court Friday morning and were sentenced to 90 days in the county jail.

Objection Filed to Sale of County Bonds
The district court Monday morning received an objection to the sale of part of Beaverhead County bonds, filed by Theo dor Nelson, Leslie Staudenmeyer and Charles Meine against county commissioners Martin C. Jackson W B Hartwig and Edgar B. Rife. The complaint says no provision exists in the 1931 budget for $11 100 for three caterpillar auto patrols.

City Plans New Street Lighting District
The city council approved creating a street lighting district and a second resolution asks the state highway commission to pave 23 blocks, including 12 previously sought. Estimated cost is about $2 per lot per year for three years then $1 per year thereafter, with one light at each end of every residential block. Currently only 40 inconsistent lights exist citywide.
