Dillon mourns the death of Dr J E Monroe principal of Beaverhead County High School at Murray Hospital in Butte after weeks of illness. A former president of Montana State Normal College and longtime educator, he was active in Masonic orders and is survived by his widow. Beaverhead Tax Levy Is Lowered
The Beaverhead county board of commissioners reduced the current year levy to 46.18 mills, down .65 from last year with the general fund cut from 12.99 to 12.34 mills. Other county fund levies stay the same: Road 5, poor 6, bridge 2, debt 2.5, general school 6, special high school 7.84. state levies remain: state general 1.75, university 2.75, educational bond 0.833. A further general fund cut was blocked by state insurance expenditure uncertainty.

Small Rise in Blister Rust Crews Reported in Northwest
Missoula Mont August 12 1936 there was a slight rise in workers and a shift in allocations for white pine blister rust control. Total employed in northwestern Montana northern Idaho and eastern Washington reached 5707 up 21 with Idaho gaining 24 and Washington 20 while Montana dropped 23. ERA workers numbered 5524 with Idaho 3053 Washington 1747 and Montana 424. 458 federal appointees and 25 ten percenters under the HRA program also toiling to save vulnerable white pine stands. The bulk of the white pine is in northern Idaho where 4458 ERA workers 21 ten percenters and 302 appointees are at work.
