Pioneer Rancher Horace Hand Dies at Lavon Ranch
Horace Hand aged 75 died at his Lavon Big Hole river ranch after a heart attack. Born December 1 1860 in Woodstock New Brunswick he freighter and rancher helped settle Montana from Denver to Wise River. His life spanned the move from hand labor to machine era and he retired to Lavon after a long career with Halbert and others. Funeral services were held with Rev H N Tragitt of Dillon presiding. pallbearers and honorary pallbearers named.

Asbury L Ulm 80 father of Mrs Archie Henneberry died Sunday in Miles City after a lingering illness. His body returned to Dillon for burial with funeral held Tuesday at Brundage chapel at 2 PM. Rev H N Tragitt of St James Episcopal conducted the service at Mountain View Cemetery.

County Board Rules Old Age Pensions for Payment

Grazing District Proposal Discussed for Southwestern Montana

Blister Rust Control Campaign Expands Across Regions
Missoula Montana July 31. A small rise in workers in northern Idaho eastern Washington and western Montana is reported in the Blister Rust Control office tally totaling 5686. ERA employment dominates with Idaho Washington and Montana contributions. The effort targets white pine forests vital to the Inland Empire lumber economy through currant and gooseberry eradication to stop spore transmission. The plan calls for half a million acres treated this year and the same next year with ongoing maintenance thereafter.

Army bombing plane lands at Woodside airport
Lieutenant Luedecke piloted a large two motor army bomber to Woodside airport for a brief stop. Crew members included Mr. Leek of Billings and Private Taylor. After inspection the plane departed for Dell. Luedecke noted the field sufficed for military use but a longer runway is ideal.

Hard Boiled Hay Hand Tamed in County Jail
Charles Arnold known as a tough customer from Big Hole basin is jailed on a disturbance charge after an arrest in Jackson. Deputies Hignight and Blinn took him into custody as he fought, then he started a bed fire and wrecked furnishings before being restrained. Sheriff McCollum moved him to Dillon where he calmed and admitted consequences.

Blaze Destroys Buick After Gas Leak Ignition
A Buick sedan owned by Robert Barrett was nearly destroyed by fire early Saturday. Driver Jack Barrett moved the burning car several blocks to Circle cafe and then to the fire station, sustaining burns while attempting to save the vehicle. A gas tank leak formed a pool by the curb and investigators suspect a lit cigarette or match sparked the flames.

Beaverhead Sportsmen ask the state game commission to declare a closed season on sage hens this fall due to drastic declines in upland birds in Beaverhead County.
