Noted Desperado Killed In Juarez Saloon Shootout

In Juarez Mexico during July a noted desperado known as Black Jack McDonald was shot and killed in his saloon by an unnamed American. The melee began over a dice game with four men, including two Americans who fled. One other American was detained.

Tragic Scald Death of Two-Year-Old in Grayling Vat

The two and a half year old son of J W Humple, a Grayling section foreman, fell into a hot water vat near a bank house. Rescued by a 11 year old and a 6 year old, the child died five and a half hours later from burns and possible inhalation. Funeral held at Mountain View cemetery with local help.

Butte Water Plant Begins Operation at Divide

The new pumping station of the Butte Water Company at Divide started last Sunday with a ceremony led by Mayor Davey. The facility, 85 by 102 feet in a brick building, uses four 800 horsepower Sterling boilers and a Corliss engine to pump 1,500,000 gallons daily, delivering water from the Big Hole river through 28 miles of pipe to Butte with a hydraulic head of 840 feet.

Pastor Edward Smith Severely Injured Saving Boy

Reverend Edward Smith, former EB church pastor in Sims and now at Livingston M E church, was seriously hurt while fishing on the Yellowstone River. A boy slid a large stone down a bluff and Smith threw himself to shield the child, breaking his left shoulder in two places. He was well known in Dillon with many friends saddened by the accident.

Assistant Superintendent W A Heim Buescher said the Montana Copper and Gold Mining company paused development at Stone Creek mines indefinitely. He could not confirm permanence and noted orders came from Chicago headquarters. No ore has been shipped and miners offered few details amid rumors of potential returns.
