The Dillon Lumber Co. mill on Lost Creek will begin cutting lumber once the 8,000 pound boiler arrives at the rail site after delays from bad roads. About 7,000 logs are ready, and mill manager J. B. McKinney has been on site overseeing the setup as excursionists arrive from Butte.

Rochester date Aug 6 The assay office at the Watseca mill burned Monday from a ganeshne lamp explosion. A few items were saved but water was unavailable so flames consumed most. A new office will be built near the mine.

The final wool shipment of the season left Dillon, 30 000 pounds from Thorpe Live Stock Co. to Jerenish Williams & Co. of Boston. Total Beaverhead County clip reached 1,671,080 pounds from 5,373 bags, bringing $201,658.59 at an average price of 12 15 16 cents per pound, with Wm Ames of Grant to ship about 24,000 pounds, nearing a 1,600,000 pound total for 1901 and just under 1,000,000 pounds in 1900.

Highest price in cattle sale shocks Montana market
Clay Robison & Co sold 38 head of 1,362 lb grass fed steers for Bloom Cattle Co of Malta Montana at 6.90 per hundredweight, the highest price ever in any market. The sale beat the July 22 Keeline Wyomings price by 40 cents and topped last season’s top by $1.15.

Old Dillon Building Demolished for New Warehouses
The wooden structure opposite the post office, long occupied by Smart the tailor, has been torn down to make way for several new warehouses on the west side of Montana street. One of Dillon’s oldest buildings, it was moved here 22 years ago from the Bedrock railroad terminus and once housed Mrs. L. Kupfer 888 jewelry store before the brick block now used by Huber Bros. was erected.

The Montana National Guard leads the nation in receiving the regular army Krag Jorgensen rifles. The magazine rifle fires a 220 grain bullet at about 2000 feet per second with an extreme range of 4700 yards. Troops will wear new uniforms after the 18th and drill at Dart hall each Thursday.

Close Call On Birch Creek Quicksand Near Dillon
Josephus Rich nearly lost his life in birch creek quicksand Saturday morning near Dillon. While fishing a sandbar formed by recent sand deposits left him sinking from knees to waist before he grabbed a protruding root and pulled free. Officials warn anglers to beware sandbars as similar incidents have occurred among local fishermen.

Stage Hold Up Near Salmon City In Blanc Mystery
Hon Emerson Hill reports a highwayman robbed a stage between Redrock and Salmon City. The thief, masked and armed with a Winchester rifle, forced the driver Pete Coulter to drop the treasure box and shot the lock, finding it empty before fleeing. Mrs Craigum was not harmed and no trace of the robber was found.
