The Hagenbarth-Greene well started Tuesday afternoon on the Crowley dome ten miles west of Dillon in the Frying Pan basin. About 100 people watched as 30 cars gathered. a belt retightening caused a short delay. L. F. Sonntag leads a skilled crew using a standard steel rig, drilling from 15 inches down, with five top geologists optimistic about the Frying Pan structure. The firm bets about 50 000 against nothing, and no stock is sold.
The Cash Market begins official opening day on Saturday April 9 in new North Montana street quarters. City Baking and the market have exchanged locations and now operate together with Chester Hale, manager, hosting visitors with carnations and a free lunch. The market features white finishes and modern equipment, attracting trade to the business district. City Baking plans a separate formal opening on Saturday April 16 with a bakery tour and a free dance. a Tribune special edition will announce the opening early next week.
Crowds swell for Coolidge who maintains Republican lead while Smith edges McAdoo in Democratic ballots. Minnesota and New York returns push Smith ahead as Reed and Donahey trail. Local results show Coolidge with a three to one edge over Lowden and Dawes, Borah with two votes, Hoover one. Ritchie and Donahey have yet to receive votes.
Tribune calendar lists theater showings at Hartwig and training school talks April 8 to 15. Listings include Hengrey Carey, Renee Adorce and Conrad Nagel, Bebe Daniels, Jetta Gondal, and local club meetings at Masonic hall and IOOF hall. Activities span lectures, Rotary luncheon, Campfire girls, Rainbow girls, and high school programs.
Two hundred two year old steers were loaded at Armstead for Chicago, weighing about 1,285 pounds each. Buyer was W. J. Baum of Chicago, with cattle fattened on native hay and shipped from Beaverhead, Montana. Shipments include over 20 carloads sent to Fry in Seattle.
A lively runaway team of horses driven by Mr. Hignight pulled a dray wagon along Montana street Monday morning. The wagon detached near the laundry and the horses dashed on, turning about three times before the animals were recaptured. Hignight escaped injury. Neighbors of Woodcraft announce a card party April 20 at the I O O F hall for a pleasant evening.
At the annual election on Tuesday night Lindley B. Phillips was re elected chief Harvey Sorenson re elected asst chief D W Paddock re elected treasurer W M Lloyd elected for two years and Joe Newnes for one year with the Dillon department voting to continue leadership.
Roscoe Cornell was re elected mayor of Dillon with 295 votes. Frank Bulger led for treasurer with 311 votes. L. P. Phillips won police judge with 366 votes. Ward results list Cornell sweeping mayoral votes across all wards. Total ballots cast reached 396 as Beaverhead residents celebrated a large turnout.
Dr. L. F. Mueller escaped serious injury after a fall from a stair in a south town home. He stepped backward off an eight foot drop onto his back and spent days recovering. He was attending a patient in the attic when the incident occurred and is thankful the outcome was not worse.
