Armstead Hosts Out-of-Town War Vet Gathering
Beaverhead post of the American Legion held its first out-of-town meeting at Armstead with 27 veterans present. About twenty motorized Dillon members joined a social program, lunch, talks, and entertainment at the schoolhouse. Adjutant Baker outlined national and state plans. the group favored renaming Bakerhead post to Vigilante post. New members were added, totaling 83, aiming for 100 this year.

Special Church Services Next Week in Bozeman
Dr. R. D. Curry of Bozeman to conduct special Baptist services at the local church all next week starting with Sunday morning. Stanley Starr reports from Polaris that his tunnel has reached 126 feet and will cut into rich ore in about 40 more feet. Knoll and son are extracting exceptionally rich ore from the old Silver Fisure mine after purchasing the property.

Rancher Joseph Spehar Fatal Shot at Ranch Home
Joseph Spehar a well known local rancher died from a self inflicted shotgun blast at his ranch north of the city. He used his wife’s crutch to press the trigger after writing goodbye notes. An inquest returned a verdict of death by own action. He leaves a wife Lucy three sons Joseph Harry and John three daughters Lucy Mary and Elizabeth two brothers Nick and John and a mother and sister in Austria.

Wise River Miner Theodore Bruce Dead in Wise River Hold
The body of Theodore Bruce a miner once in Elk horn district was found near his cabin in Wise River last Friday morning by Frank Powell and Leslie Jones. Officials ruled natural causes with hemorrhage as direct cause and starvation a factor body frozen to the ground and found with little food in the cabin. Funeral held Saturday at Mountain View cemetery Dillon. No relatives located. Bruce formerly resided in Butte.

Thomas N. Smith, longtime city resident and former sheep ranch herder, died at Barrett hospital last Sunday after a stroke. Unmarried and well regarded, he was active with the Odd Fellows. Word reached Dillon last week of the death on March 4 in Waterville Maine of Mrs Augusta Tilden widow of the late Dr Horace D Tilden former pastor of the First Baptist Church here. She moved to Maine after her husband died in October 1915. Dr Tilden served as pastor here on two occasions.
