Well-Known Rancher Held for Assault
Martin Markovich, a well known ranchman of the valley, is held without bonds at the county jail on charges of striking his wife and pushing her from a moving car. Mrs. Markovich is in serious condition at Barrett hospital, with some improvement reported. The incident occurred near the Markovich ranch north of the city, according to Sheriff McCollum.

Council caucus nominates aldermen for city election
At a Wednesday night city caucus at city hall three council seats were filled with incumbents drawing nominations and Elmo Winn chosen for the second ward to replace Al Featherly. George M. Gosman, George E. Baker, and John T. Orr were nominated for reelection in wards one three and four respectively. The election set for Monday April 6 will fill one year terms before eight members serve two years after 1937, ending off year elections.

Chicken thieves strike at T. T. McAdam ranch raid

Pupils Compete In Beaverhead Flag Contest
The American Legion auxiliary hosted a flag contest at the training school auditorium with 23 contestants from nine county schools. Seventh and eighth graders Rachel Birrer of Gosman and John Wedum of Dillon took top honors, while Kenneth Welborn and Mary Ann Luebben won the fifth and sixth grade division. County winners in the higher division will advance to the regional contest in Butte in April. Judges included Fay Kirkpatrick, Rev Harvey J Schmidt, and Dr R E Albright.

James Jensen Dies After Long Illness At Barrett
James Jensen about 75 died Wednesday morning at Barrett hospital after several months illness. He worked as a herder on Beaverhead county ranches for many years and was well known in the community. The funeral will be held Thursday afternoon from Brundage chapel with Rev. J A Meeke of the Methodist church officiating. Interment details not shown.

Well-Known Dillon Man Carl Mittelmeier Dies Suddenly
Carl Mittelmeier, a prominent Dillon resident, died Friday night likely of a heart attack. He was found Saturday afternoon after friends grew concerned about his absence from the garage where he worked. Born in Hays Kansas, he moved to Dillon at 13, worked as a clerk, then as a skilled mechanic, later ranching on Birch Creek before returning to Dillon eight years ago to work at J. W. Walters garage. Funeral was Monday at St. Rose Catholic Church with Rev. F. X. Lechner celebrating a requiem high mass. burial at Mountain View. He is survived by three brothers Jake Frank of Dillon and Alex of Butte, a sister Annie McLaughlin of Butte and a son in Miles City.

Herder George Lanon Dies from Heart Attack
George Lanon, 75, longtime county herder, was found dead Friday morning in a Parke Scott ranch field near Armstead. Sheriff investigation concluded he died of a heart attack while leading his horse across the field. He had stayed alone at the ranch. owner Parke Scott found the cold house and unfed cattle. The horse was located, followed by the body. Funeral services were held Monday at Brundage chapel with Rev. Willis Loar officiating, burial at Mount cemetery.
