Veteran Dillon contractor Harrie J. Bostwick dies at 2:30

Harrie J. Bostwick a well known Dillon contractor died at his Thomson avenue home after months of illness. Born October 21 1871 in Waynesville Missouri he served in the Spanish American War before settling in Dillon in 1907. He helped build numerous local blocks and houses and is survived by his widow son Gerald two grandsons a granddaughter and other relatives. Virgil Bostwick died in World War I. The funeral was held at 2 30 p m Wednesday at Brundage chapel with Beaverhead post American Legion and Rev Willis J Loar officiating. Interment followed at Mountain View Cemetery.

Warning Given On Menace Of Gophers

Residents of Beaverhead county receive a spring and summer alert on gopher handling due to the risk of bubonic plague. Dr A L Strand from Montana State College entomology advised county officials and County Agent Bernard Williams on a proposed campaign against ground squirrels early in the season.

Butte Handball Aces Draw Close Duel At YMCA

Senator George M. Melton of Butte and his son Monte faced Ray Gallant and Fred Kimblett at the YMCA court in a tight match. The Dillon duo won the first set 21 17, then the Butte pair responded 21 17 and 21 16 after an extra set to decide the contest amid a cheering crowd.

Nominees Win In City Elections Across Four Wards

In the annual city election held Monday 108 votes were cast. All four candidates were elected with Ward 1 George Gosman 25 votes, Ward 2 Elmo Winn 82 votes Al Featherly 18 H Sorenson 1, Ward 3 George E Baker 17, Ward 4 John T Orr 19 and Al Featherly 1.

Future Farmers Back From Meet

E W Bjork and five Future Farmers returned from Kalispell with teams in poultry stock egg grading and rifle events plus a public speaking contest. Dillon dominated poultry judging with Robert Harrison first and the Dillon team third in shock judging. George Kurtz was second high point. Johnson Sweeny, George Kurtz and Joe Hermann formed the Dillon rifle team which placed third. Blake Bean won second in speaking. Joe Hermann tied for first in egg grading. Other entrants included Kalispell Missoula Polson Deer Lodge and Lone Pine.

County Board Sells Big Hole Irrigation District

During the monthly session the board leased the Big Hole Irrigation district to F R McDowell of Wisdom for 750 dollars per year. Officials warned residents to avoid handling gophers to curb bubonic plague, with plans to cooperate with the state entomology board. The Dillon Twin Bridges highway project was commended as work begins, with the first phase extending 2.624 miles from Dillon Butte. grading and surfacing contract awarded to J C OConnor of Butte for 41664.35 dollars.

Hollywood ballet artist to perform for high school program

Miss Ruth Denise Tyro of the Hollywood Ballet will dance a classical ballet as a feature of the Beaverhead county high school speech class program. The event takes place Tuesday evening, April 14, in the high school gym. Tyro is visiting Dillon at her father Frank Tyro’s home before returning to Hollywood. Her brother Frank Tyro Jr. graduated with the local class of 1933.

Inter-Urban Meet Event at Armstead Gathering

The Dillon Rotary club held a Monday dinner in Armstead at seven o'clock with Joe Wedum as chair. Ken neth Barry provided piano accompaniment and Bert McMenomey gave the welcome, followed by Dr. R. E. Albright's response. The evening featured tap dances, a Highland fling, an Armstead Margret Connolly pupil program, and remarks by State Representative Joe Metlen.

Dillon Musicians Present Wide Range of Selections

Under Mr. Ralph McFadden direction Dillon musicians performed a varied morning assembly program including Joy Shortnin Bread Owl and Pussy Cat and Believe Me Is All Those Emdearing Young Charms. Evans and Jackson Obtain Marriage License in County Office

Vinton Roy Evans of Emporia Kansas and Katherine Louise Jackson of Dillon Montana secured a marriage license at the county auditor’s office this morning. The filing was reported by the Wallace Ida Press Times on March 21, 1936.

Dillon Country Club names new directors for 1986 season

At the annual stock holders meeting held in the city hall council rooms, Dillon Country Club elected W. Bi Hartwig and Dale Tash to the board. Other directors include R. M Barrett, F. Me Bulger, and J. W. W. Rees as plans for improvements and a spring summer kickoff were discussed. Greens and fairways are reported in excellent condition for the season start.
