Hunters Report Sparse Birds but Revel in Local Stocking Plans
Returning bird hunters found blue grouse and other legal game scarce in the region. An official of the Rocky Mountain Sportsmen's Association said 1939 saw over 500 000 trout and grayling fingerlings planted in southwestern Montana streams, with more planned including 300 pheasants in Beaverhead and Madison counties and 250 Yellowstone elk moves. The group notes Montana hosts the largest grayling supply, though transplant success has been modest and shipments east have been heavy.
