Fugitive Hendricks Arrested After Riof Incident Near Dell
A South Carolina fugitive, Bank B. Hendrick, was arrested in Sheep Creek basin near Dell last Tuesday and handed to Greenville officers. He faces federal charges for manufacturing illegal whiskey and shooting at a federal officer who tried to arrest him. Dan Mooney accompanied by C. G. Kelsey and R. C. Eberstein aided the arrest in Great Falls where the federal warrant was issued.

James Baird Dies Fighting Fire Near Heber Utah
James Baird prominent Utah pioneer killed August 30 when a burning tree toppled on him while aiding firefighting near Heber. He left Beaverhead county ranches and sheep interests. his son John Baird runs Wisdom outfit. Burial at Heber follows funeral attended by relatives and friends.

Last Friday afternoon Grant Matron, a rancher of Grent, died at home on Horse Prairie Inston from heart trouble. Funeral services were held from Brundage chapel with interment in Mountain View cemetery. He had been a county resident for years and was survived by his husband Jennie Clark and several children.

National Defense Day Observed in Dillon
Last Friday September 12 Dillon observed the first National Defense Day with Stars and Stripes displayed around the city and a band concert at the training school grounds in the evening. A program at the training school auditorium began with America sung and speeches by T 4 Gilbert and Dr J H Monroe on defense and readiness. Dr S B Davis urged defending American standards and the American way of life. The event closed with the Star Spangled Banner and officials hoped more citizens would participate next year.
