Dillon's 1924 pow wow dazzles crowds in Beaverhead rodeo

Beaverhead county fair commission staging Dillon's pow wow cheered crowds with new features including two harness races daily under Sam Freeman and Johnnie Mullins. Riders battled brahma, Hereford, and a record calf roping time while Tom Cox led broncho busting and Norman Mason dazzled with top rides.

Enrollment Uptick At Beaverhead Schools Quietly Noted

Beaverhead County High School registered 216 students with about 79 in the upper class and under 150 freshmen and sophomores. The Beaverhead Training School enrolled 316 in grammar grades, totaling 637 students. The high school football season opens September 22 at Deer Lodge with a pending date against Anaconda. Coach Julian Gunderson reports 20 players in suits, including Metzel Dunn Yost R Smith Jardine Barnesa Farrell plus Holmés expected later.

County primary participants must file a campaign expense statement with the county clerk by five o’clock this afternoon or incur a fine. All candidates, regardless of election outcome, must comply within fifteen days after the election to avoid ballot removal.

Bud Galt manager of Beaverhead Motors Company won ten dollars offered by The Dillon Examiner for submitting the correct list of misspelled words in the three fair programs last week. He was the first to reach the office with a correct list amid many other entries.

Register by Sept 19 to vote in Beaverhead County

The registrar urges eligible voters to register by 5 p.m. September 19 in the office of John Baker, clerk and recorder. Those who did not vote last general election or recently registered must add their name to the great register. Young people who will be 21 by November 5 may register now and vote on November 6. If voting elsewhere last election, change registration to the current precinct.

City of DILLON to Levy Twelve Mills in Tax

The City Council met in regular session last Wednesday evening to discuss and approve a tax levy of twelve mills for the city of Dillon. Officials reviewed budget needs and projected revenue to fund city services and operations.

Nine for general municipal purposes, two for streets, one for the public library, and one half mill for band concerts. Bills from Hughes McCaleb Union Electric and others were approved totaling over a thousand dollars in General Fund and additional sums for Street Water and Library funds.

National Defense Day Observed in Dillon Friday

National Defense Day will be observed in Dillon on Friday September 12. The event includes a band concert at the Training School grounds followed by programs in the school auditorium with speakers Dr S E Davis Linden McCullough Dr J E Monroe and T E Gilbert explaining the day’s purpose. Community groups are invited and citizens will enroll to volunteer for one day of service.
