Dillon Dillon Grade School Opens Registration Day

Yesterday at 9:00 a.m. Beaverhead county high school and Dillon grade school began the new term with 183 high school pupils. Seniors numbered 47, juniors 317, sophomores 49, and freshmen 50. Grade school enrollment neared 400 with primary students around 400 total. The district set new tuition rules for out of state and out of district pupils.

W E Roberts Dies Monday In Crackerville

W E Roberts former Birch creek rancher and Dillon harness shop operator died Monday at his Crackerville home near Anaconda after a brief illness. Born September 30 1875 in Arlington Nebraska he served in Nebraska regulars and as a Spanish War veteran. Survivors include his wife two sons and daughters in law three sisters and a brother. Funeral Friday at 2 00 pm at the Methodist church with Rev H B Ricketts and American Legion graveside rites.

Kitchen Canning Plant Totals 760 Cans In One Day

Last Thursday afternoon the local canning kitchen set a daily record by producing 760 cans. William Evans, head of the project, reports that over 6000 cans have been processed so far. The cannery will remain in operation for at least three weeks as long as demand lasts.

Breeders Enter Beaverhead Ram Show Expands Reach

About 20 breeders participate in the Beaverhead ram show with increased consignor involvement from districts beyond Beaverhead county. The 1943 event features exhibitors from Kalispell Bozeman Sheridan Deer Lodge Wilsall Hobson and Deer Lodge Farms among others, reflecting growing statewide interest in Rambouillet sheep. A larger exhibit and sale pane organizers note broader regional turnout this year.

Slipcovering Workshop Offered in City Hall

A three day slipcovering workshop is set for September 22 23 24 in the council room of the city hall. Fifteen women may enroll and must apply at the county extension office. Duffy Sentenced To Deer Lodge For Knife Affray

Jack Duffy was sentenced to one year in the state penitentiary at Deer Lodge on a second degree assault count. He was arrested by Officer Al Ward for stabbing a fellow customer, John Slutz, in a cafe at about 2:30 AM. The victim was slashed below the ribs but not believed seriously injured.

Community Train Service Nets 300 From Rodeo Barbecue

The Dillon train service fundraiser and auxiliary members raised about 300 dollars from a rodeo weekend barbecue. 25 cent sandwiches drew crowds after the event, with Chris Bay & Son donating the steer for the meal. Special Child Appropriation For College In Montana

Montana State Normal College will house a new exceptional children’s school department with a $16 300 budget approved by the 1943 legislature. The program opens Sept 25 under a yet unnamed director and will be funded by state welfare and a first annual appropriation. Dillon Beaverhead Western Rodeo Draws Full Local Crowd

Beaverhead's first rodeo staged by the Dillon Rodeo Association drew capacity crowds of Dillon residents and Montana citizens in Geneva last Sunday and Labor Day. The six day Western celebration climaxed with a Labor Day grand parade and rodeo show finals, featuring the all around cow boy winner Jack Carraher of Anaconda.

Legion Installation Opens Beaverhead Post Season

Beaverhead Post No 20 of the American Legion holds its first fall session with state commander C Biffle presiding as local officers are installed for the new year. Clark Anderson Dies Following Long Illness

Bea verhead pioneer Clark Anderson died Saturday at his Dillon home after a long illness. Born April 8, 1861 near Birmingham Ohio, he moved to Dillon with his brother Alvin in 1887 and spent 56 years there. The Anderson brothers operated a livery stable, later ran a stage line, and formed the Dillon Meat Company before his final cattle ranching days were cut short by illness.
