Former Dillon Lady Anna Owsley Dies at 79
Mrs. Anna W. Owsley died of heart failure at her ranch near Whitehall on a Friday night. She had long served as matron of the Normal college dormitories in Dillon, guiding hundreds of students for more than two decades. Born in Missouri in 1846, she married Joseph W. Owsley in 1869 and moved to Montana twenty years later. Her funeral was held in Butte with interment at Mount Moriah, Rev. Walter Jordan officiating. Pallbearers included Burt A. Power and other local figures, and her eleven children were noted, six surviving.

Picnic at Elk horn Springs Draws Hundreds Hosts Build Summer Home
Close to two hundred people attended the Grasshopper area picnic at Elk horn Springs last Sunday hosted by Mr and Mrs Frank Felt. Attendees included Dillon residents and Big Hole basin visitors. The forestry department unveiled plans for a new 100 by 50 foot plunge with a large lobby restrooms vapor baths and a 60 by 50 foot plunge. Felt completed a near five room summer cottage at the springs the first of its kind in the area with others planning similar cottages.

Auto Thieves Take W. W. Shepard Ford Runabout
Last Thursday evening auto thieves drove away with W. W. Shepard's Ford runabout. He had parked it on a side street near his home and left it overnight. In the morning the car was missing and has not yet been recovered.

Grain Yields Vary Across Montana Counties
Readable county by county estimates show winter wheat ranges from six to twenty five bushels per acre while dry land wheat in Stillwater hits eight to twenty six. Mrs Bertie Metlen Howard died in Butte last Thursday after an operation for internal trouble. Funeral held Saturday at the Masonic temple in Dillon under Eastern Star auspices with Rev. Jensen preaching. Burial at Mountain View Cemetery beside her parents. pallbearers included Mayor J H Gilbert and others. She was 47, born on Horse Prairie, lived in Beaverhead County most of life, survived by relatives in Dillon and Caldwell Idaho.

Escape Attempt Found In County Courthouse Basement
Elmer Johnson alias Tom Gilmore had holes six feet long dug along an iron pipe in the courthouse basement. Authorities say hacksaws were smuggled in by friends a week earlier and Gilmore was kept in the improvised jail section. Sheriff Wyman noted the risk and placed guards before Gilmore could be transported to Deer Lodge.

Big Ranch Deal Consumated In Beaverhead County
Frank Hazelbaker closed a major deal transferring the George Tash ranch to the Diamond O outfit on Grasshopper. The 3600 acre ranch includes 1600 cattle and 100 horses with machinery, fenced land, and leases, near the Diamond O holding of over 10 000 acres. Mr and Mrs Tash will reside in Dillon for now.
