Death of A J Noyes Follows Bull Attack at Harlem
Beaverhead residents mourn A J Noyes after a bull gored him at his son C R Noyes's Harlem ranch. He died Saturday evening from internal injuries and multiple fractures. Funeral held in Dillon from the Methodist church with pallbearers including Mayor J H Gilbert and Dr F M Poindexter. Noyes, born December 2 1856 in Minnesota, long trusted figure in the Big Hole with Ajax ranch and mine, served as assessor and authored works on Ajax and Dimsdale’s Vigilantes.

Metlen Hotel to Undergo Major Improvements Under New Managers
Archie and George Main lease The Metlen hotel and will take over management September 1. They plan extensive upgrades including a repaint of the exterior, interior remodeling, removal of lobby partitions, a large new lobby and office, additional baths, refurnished sleeping rooms, new carpets and bedroom furniture, with work starting at the month’s end. Archie Main brings years of hotel management experience to the project.

Celebration for Danes Parade and Speechmaking in City
The Danish Brotherhood of this county schedules a celebration next Tuesday evening at city hall to honor young Danes drafted into the U S army. Twelve or fourteen will answer the call to colors as a patriotic parade is planned and residents are urged to decorate autos. Judge Joseph C. Smith will speak and the event ends with a dance and supper for the draftees. all ladies bring baskets.

Public School Opens Tuesday In Dillon With Strong Attendance Expected
Dillon public schools set to open next Tuesday morning after Labor Day with enrollments anticipated to reach record levels. The Armstead born Parke Scott, now a second lieutenant, passed through Dillon en route to the coast. Local drafts and exemptions are discussed as Beaverhead county prepares its quota for the new national army with staged mobilization.

Pioneer Cozad Dies At 72 In Beaverhead County
Joseph A. Cozad a Beaverhead County pioneer died at his ranch on Taylor Creek Grasshopper section last Wednesday evening after an apoplexy illness. He was 72 and came to Montana as a young man locating on Taylor Creek soon after arriving in Beaverhead County. Survived by four children Leater Bert Leroy Lulu, funeral held Saturday at Brund Undertaking parlors with Rev Corll officiating at Mountain View Cemetery.

Fire at Montana Meat Market Abattoir Causes Massive Loss
A Thursday blaze at the Montana Meat Market slaughter plant, caused by a coal gas explosion in the holer room, leveled the large frame building. Firefighters saved nearby structures but losses reach about 10 000 with $2 500 insurance on the building. Storage of smoked meats tallow and ice were destroyed.

Apex Rancher Albert Baffer Dies After Illness
Albert Baffer aged about 70 died Sunday after noon at his 80 acre Apex ranch home from miners consumption. He was born in Sweden on September 17 1873 and came to America at 17 to work in Butte mines for 22 years. He later bought land from Beaverhead Land Sales and lived there a year with Hulda Herman, whom he married December 3 1903. They had four children Maurice 13 Sophia 11 and a five year old daughter and another child aged unknown. Remains shipped to Butte for funeral services.
